Parker - Lamy Ink Cartridge Compatibility

My ink cartridge ran out in my Parker 100 and I had no Parker cartridges around. I had lots of Lamy T10 blues and the business end looked very close to that of the Parker so out of desperation I used one and it fit fine. Just thought I share this with all you Parker/Lamy pen cartridge users.

Aurora carts are of roughly the same size and shape too. Maybe they were all early adopters of Parker's design?

in my experience, carts are pretty interchangeable- I've yet to experience a brand X cart that doesn't fit brand Y- it's the converters that don't always play nice, because of extra things like metal rings that manufacturers put in them.

There are several that are completely incompatible with other brands. In particular the Japanese cartridges don't interchange with anything else, even other Japanese brands. But Parker and Aurora cartridges are nearly identical and are 2-way interchangeable. Lamy has the same size opening and will work in a Parker or Aurora pen if it fits. However, these three cartridge types have a larger opening than standard International types and may leak if used in a pen that is designed for International cartridges. There are limits to interchangeability.

Is the opposite the case as well? Do the standard international types fit the Parker?

 

If so, my problems are solved! I wanted more selection of ink colors but love my Parker pen. It would be great to be able to use the standard international cartridges in my Parker.

 

I tried comparing the two openings of the cartridges and I'm a little dubious, so if anyone has tried it, could they let me know if it works?

I think you're asking for trouble if you try using a International cartridge in a Parker. My guess is that even if you can force it in, you'll eventually ruin your nipple.

 

International in a Waterman? Sure. They're virtually the same.

Thank you. I'm glad I didn't try it. My Parker pen is my absolute favorite and I'd be crushed if I ruined it.

In which case let me amend my observations to Inoxcrom and Rotring carts being interchangeable, as well as with the newer Parkers (post-Rubbermaid acquisition of Rotring and Parker)

Waterman carts are international longs. The pierced end in identical. The only difference is the length.

I'm the newbie here, so I could be mistaken. But from looking at online stores, I've seen a Pelikan that was supposed to be an international long (they have the short version also). And a Levenger that had both a Parker end and an international end that is 3" long. I think they're discontinuing those though as they have a great sale price on them at the moment with a very limited selection of colors. I ordered some just in case.

From the Parker pen selection I have, mostly Frontiers and Vectors, international and Parker cartridges are not at all compatible.
