Broken nib

Hi,

I just got a Sheaffer Lady II in the mail. Unfortunately, one of the tines were broken. Is there something I can do about the current nib, or is there anywhere I can find a replacement?

Sorry about the bad pictures, macro photography isn't my thing :)

looks like either a steel nib or a silver nib, a quickie solution is to grind off the tines either to an oblique that keeps the good tine's iridium, or to a stub that castrates the remaining iridium testicle. your pen will last a long time, especially if it is one among dozens that you use (because it will get used only for, say, one 12th your remaining lifespan).

Replacement would have to come from a donor pen.

I've handled/seen many Lady Sheaffer pens. Broken tines are common. As are dented barrels and caps, scratched and missing finishes, and brassing on the nibs that were plated. Lady Sheaffers are the least durable Sheaffer models I've seen. Maybe because they were made to be fashion items, or maybe because the examples I've seen had hard use. Regular cartridge pens from the same era seem to have held up better.

Good luck,

Don
