Pelikan Brilliant Red

You can't make it out well in the pictures but this ink is one you'll need sunglasses to write with. Talk about a HOT red!

The ink looks very nice in your review, but it does not reflect my experience. When I bought a bottle last year, the ink was so watery as to be almost unusable. Eventually I poured it out and used the bottle to store a custom mix.

I bought a bottle of Pelikan red last November or so and was hugely disappointed with it. It almost looked like writing with water that a package of cherry Kool-Aid had passed within a meter or two. Well, not quite that bad, but very uninspiring. I dumped out the converter and haven't used it since.

Maybe this ink is an extreme case of inks that look lovely in vintage pens, but watery and washed out in modern pens. It certainly looks nice in your Esterbrooks.

nooooooooo ...I'll never put Pelikan red into a FP again... the red ink on the nib dried green after 2-3 minutes and the ink window was stained...

And the ink itself is a VERY yellowish/orange red... Waterman red is quite similar but so much better (and more red)!

Just FYI, the sample of Pelikan Brilliant Red that I sent to maestro was from an older bottle. Perhaps Pelikan has changed formulations?

Pelikan Brilliant Red is my favourite red. It just will blow out your page. I agree though that is a little watery and tend to be attracted from nibs in some morbous way.

 

I'm using it on unexpensive pens like Pelikano, Safari or Frontier.

I finally found a use for this red coloured water. With yellow, it produces a nice orange

Nice post and congratulations for getting onto the boat. Your red looks much more like my Pelikan Red. Not at all so explosive but more like a type of brick red.

Oh and the bottle of Pelikan Red that i have is 'explosive' (literally), there is no way i can use it without mixing. But yes i really dont understand why people hate this ink, its different and has its own style.
