Beautiful pen, just like my Frontier flighter... :D

I agree with Tsujigiri, metal + piston filler is a nice and less considered category. Even my beloved Aurora 88 has a metal version but it's C/C! What a pity.

A question: is the ink window striated like the 146 or is it just clear?

Thanks for the review, and I actually like when the pics are done in natural light, they are so good!

Hi,

That's a nice pen. I really like the durability potential of metal and I am not fond of gold. So it's usually silver or stainless steel for me. In the pen world (during my tiny time here) I've not see that many silver pens that were not extensively decorated. I don't mind that so much but it usually means the pen cost a lot more. Montblancs generally cost a lot more anyway.

However a stainless steel version gives me hope that I might find one I can have. The stainless steel is also great because I'm not gentle with my toys and tend to hurt things that are not made well. The other day I accidently flung my Lamy Studio (it was capped) around the workshop and later that same day somewhere else, both times it lands on concrete floors. I did not panic or cry-out as I did not know the damage yet, I just picked it up and put it away because I was in the middle of something and did not have time to worry about it (this was the first time I had dropped it). Later at home I remembered and under close inspection I saw that it looked EXACTLY like it did when I bought it new. :) Not a scratch.

Of course that does not happen all the time, but I'd like a pen that can take some minor hits without worrying about the thing shattering on me. Now I can be gentle with things I like. Since I'm kind of a mechanics geek, you already know I love the idea of Demonstrators (for the LA show I'm focusing on NOT buying every one I see), so those I would treat gentler, since they are made of acrylic, and some more delicate vintage pieces I'd show respect. And kittens, you have to be nice and cuddly with the kitty-kats! Anyway, stainless steel sounds perfect and I'll definitely add this pen to my Check-It-Out list. Maybe I can find a used one I can afford. The only thing I don't like is that the cap will not post. I like posting the cap as a way of having all the parts together and not lost. When I'm writing or drawing I don't want to have to keep track of extra parts laying around. I want a self contained, reliable tool. A nice, aesthetic design helps too. I don't have a piston filler, but am I correct in understanding that it will hold a lot more ink than a converter/cartridge? That's what I'm talking about; let's get the job done! Maybe I can find a version where the cap will post. Los Angeles International Pen show in 5 days!

The ink window has the black stripes.

I also think the daylight photos are very attractive.

Jeen, many thanks for your answer.

Amir, yes, that picture pretty much says it all, thanks!

Btw: it's my impression or this ink window is smaller of the actual plain 146?

Cheers,

Will you be providing a review of the cat? Maybe with a writing sample? :P

May you and those you love, be always blessed with peace and never ending joy.

Shh! That's a sore point. The cat's paw is much better. :meow:

That's always a painful matter :)

Tzutzik's nibs must be needlepoint fine...until he nibmiesters them on some quality woollen notepad (carpet) then they become lethal while he becomes badboy Karpet Killer :yikes:

I think, GP, you might need a bigger cat for bolder writing claws. May I suggest a MB Bengal: lovely line variation, and that's just on the body :vbg:

Sterling silver edition in middle. Do not post caps.

Excellent review, nice cat, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

It's funny to see my earlier post on this thread, because my husband did end up getting one of these and I did as well. He loves his. However, I later sold mine, because the 146 is just not the right pen for me and I should stick with the dome-tops I love. The B nib on mine was divine though.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
