Spors Section?

Aysedasi

Recommended Posts

I've just acquired a small Spors glass-nibbed pen with a crescent filler. I onlty bought it on impulse as I wanted to dry a glass-nibbed pen. It needs a new sac but I can't seem to get the section to move. Silly question - am I looking at friction (or shellac) type fit here or is this likely to unscrew?

Friction fit... BUT Spors sections are notoriously difficult to get out and the body material on the ones that I have had are extremely heat sensitive... I have actually had one melt and stretch while trying to remove the section and it was not anywhere near the heat I would use for a Vacumatic which is also heat sensative...

I thought the title of this topic was "Sports Section?" and that someone was lobbying for a new forum.

And, they're glued in. Not shellac, but glue. FUN!

I have been able to get a few of these apart using gentle doses of heat over time with a heat gun and holding the pen farther away from the gun than normal (try a good 15 inches) After time I have gotten a few apart. But it tries the patience.

A success photo below:

Good luck, it can be done, just not as easily as most.

Funnily enough when I first typed it, that's exactly what I typed.......

Well, thanks for the advice guys - I may regret buying this one! At least it was relatively cheap....... ;)

If you decide you don't want to possibly ruin it while restoring it....

Remember, they make great dip pens... my daughter is using her Spors as a dip pen and it works fine

Reviving this topic; I'm in Ayse's position. I don't have a heat gun, just my daughter's hair dryer and hot water. Is there any hope for the repair, or shall I determine to follow Old Griz's advice and make it a dip pen?

Just start even further away and take it really, really slowly.

Oh, boy. I've been holding it over the hair dryer for ages, on and off, twisting gently -- even got a blister on my left hand from twisting the hot section. Will return to this process after work.

Hi,

As I think I posted in another thread, my Spors repair experience is based on a sample of one. That said, I recall that the section gave way all at once; this was not one of those slow releases that give a sense of incremental progress. I couldn't imagine trying to disassemble one of these pens without a proper heat gun and section pliers.

When I reassembled the pen, the section (now lacking the adhesive that originally held it in place) was much too lose. I'm afraid I didn't have the patience to do the "right thing": i.e., slowly build up the section "step" with successive coats of shellac. Instead - and against expert advice - I used a dab of section sealant. It worked, but I can't really recommend the technique.

I'm glad I got one of these up and running, but I doubt I'll try any more. Right now I'm batting 1.000, and I really don't want to see that average drop.

Cheers,

Jon

One of those unaccountable coincidences....

After more than a half hour of hair-dryer treatment tonight (using a rubber band for grip and insulation), the section hasn't given a hint that it might ever budge. For now, I'm thinking "dip pen."

I finally got the section off, after much heat and elbow grease. Does anyone with experience in such matters know which size sac I should order for it?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
