Take a look at this thread:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=92594

Parker has been using the same date code system on most of its recent pens, and has continued the same system on into the 2000's.

Regards

Richard.

PIII

Continuing the 'QualityPen' system:-

Q = 2000

U = 2001

A = 2002

L = 2003

I = 2004

T = 2005

Y = 2006

P = 2007

E = 2008

N = 2009

PIII = 1st Quarter 2007

PII = 2nd Quarter 2007

PI = 3rd Quarter 2007

P = 4th Quarter 2007

I have a Parker Profile with date code PI, which I bought late 2008, so it seems reasonable.

Regards

Richard.

Letter first, 2000 plus, wth a dot before the l or ll or lll

Letter second or no dot 1990's

Dunno if they dated the ones in the 80's, I'll check this out in my collection when its not so darned hot.

Didn't notice the dot in my Profile, but that doesn't mean it's not there!

Can we have some of your heat?

It's wet, and hovering around 4C here.

PM sent for the darn hot.

Just kidding.

This datecode thing is deceiving I think. I have a SS Frontier which has "IE" as a datecode.

Looking to Richard's guide, it seems like there are 3 options to date my pen:

  • 1984, first quarter
  • 1988, third quarter
  • 1998, third quarter

This year is the last round of the third decade of the Quality Pen method. Hopefully they will devise a new methods for the 10s!

diplomat, do you realy think the date code system doesn't have any reason now? Is it possible??

I'm not saying that.

My point is that in 2010 I hope they will come out with something new, otherwise 3 decades of qualitypen + sticks before or after or dotted are going to do a lot of confusion.

The confusion is already in place since in a few cases - and one is mine (IE code) - there are duplicates or even triplicates (again, that's my case).

Other than that I do appreciate the possibility to date a pen by its code, that's clear.

Cheers,

Whoops, I just automatically thought we were considering Duofolds.

I have to keep reminding myself now that there are other modern pens out there, I may even have one ;-)
