Recommendations for bulletproof blues or blue black

menick

Recommended Posts

It seems lately I have official documents to fill out... more than ever.

Since any official document I fill out in bulletproof ink, and some of them even specify that only blue or black ink should be used, I need recommendations for inks

Lately, I've been using lots of polar blue.

Now, I need a change. Blues and blue black, bulletproof. Any favorite?

IMHO, the best choice for legal document signing is Legal Lapis. Unfortunately, it is not currently available. (Exclusive to Pendemonium)

While any of Noodler's bulletproof inks are always a good choice, there are a few rated very good that might interest you: Aircorp Blue/Black, American Blue Eel, Noodler's Blue, Art Brown labeled Noodler's Manhattan Blue, Fountain Pen Hospital Noodler's Old Manhattan Black, Swisher Pen Noodler's Antigua Blue. My personal favorite for black ink is Heart of Darkness.

Good luck making your choice!

Black is nice, X-Feather is great for those forms on low quality paper, the new Tung-te-Cheng is a very dark blue-black with purple hints, Polar Blue is OK, Luxury blue is OK. Legal Lapis is nice, but unavailable, as noted, but Legal Blue (Art Brown? Fountain Pen Hospital?) is also nice.

I already have legal lapis, and in my opinion, it is far too greenish. Personal taste.

I'll check some of your suggestions.

As for Swisher Aquamarine? Any comments?

Noodler's Navy is near-bulletproof, and it's a good-looking blue - a touch of green, but way less than Legal Lapis (from scans, anyway).

Noodler's Luxury Blue is a vivid bulletproof blue. I like it when I'm not required to use black. Its even pigmented enough to go down uniformly from any nib I've used.

I haven't used it, but perhaps Prime of the Commons?

Pens currently in carrying case: Lamy 2000 F with Noodler's Navy/Bulletproof Black mix, Sheaffer Imperial M with Noodler's Golden Brown, and Lamy Logo F with Noodler's Bulletproof Black.

With the recent unavailablity of Noodlers, and the fact that My Polar Blue Feathers like a sponge off the nib, I have been using Registrar's ink from ESS. 110ml for $11.50 USD delivered. Blue-Black and an archival quality ink. I love it and am using it as my Hospital and Medical office ink exclusively. I too have to use Archival quality Inks and I have a lot of attempts to alter or add to my prescriptions. So a Blue-black that cannot be matched by commonly available rollerball or Ball point inks really make them think twice about adding Lortab to my RX for Amoxil. It is Not as you term Bullet proof but it is permanent and archival.

I also have no feathering or Nib creep with the Registrar's ink, and it is a rich Blue-Black that I can easily tell a copy from an original. I love the Price for the Quantity. And NO, I don't worry about it being an Iron Gall ink, I just flush my pens with warm water about once every other fill and it is fine.

It is marketed as Diamine Registrar's ink, but also sold in the British Govt Packaging at ESS as stated above as just Registrar's Ink. It is the INk that is required for Official Govt Documents Such as Birth certificates, Death Certificates, And on Clergy Rolls. Great stuff!

I have the Eel Black - it flows nicely, it's quite black, and completely bulletproof. Borealis Black is REALLY black and nicely water resistant, but not quite bulletproof. I haven't tried most of the inks mentioned in the post above, but I can say that the Eel Blue is definitely not bulletproof. The color is fantastic and it flows beautifully, but it runs from water like I do from spiders! :gaah:

I recently tried Montblanc Blue-Black, and despite the flurry of posts questioning its safety, I've had no troubles at all. Of course, I flush the pen a little more frequently, but otherwise don't do anything special. It's a bit dry, but the color is exactly what I have in mind when I picture blue-black.

Although it's fairly expensive and not that easy to get, Sailor Kiwaguro (sp?) nano-carbon is another great, waterproof black ink. The lubrication is wonderful and the writing doesn't budge once it's dry (which happens very quickly!).

Cheers,

Mike

PS - I've also heard that Platinum Blue-Black is quite water resistant. I just got a bottle and haven't tested the water-resistancy, but the color is a gorgeous cobalt blue.

Flow good, ooze bad!

I have heard that Pilot Blue Black has some degree of water resistance -- more so than either their Blue or Black inks. I believe girlieg33k posted a review about a year ago.

The advantage of this ink is that you can buy it (from Japan) on eBay in large (and I mean LARGE) bottles that will supply you for a decade or more.

I'm finding this ink to be green. Watch this forum for further updates of my tests, but so far it is clearly a dark green.

Noodlers UK ink? There seems to be more and more reasons to order from the UK...

Any link where I can get it in north america? (or have it delivered here?

I've heard more and more about this ink. Not a fan of black, but if with a mix and can render another color waterproof (the other would wash out, but the black part would stay) then this could be nice!

I use about 12 parts Noodler's Ottoman Azure with about 1 part Noodler's Heart of Darkness. I really like the color.

Pilot (Namiki) Blue, hands down. Both cartridge and bottled version. This ink will smear just a bit under water, unlike Noodler's bulletproofs. But no amount of water will get it fully out of any paper, even glossy stuff. And it will retain color and remain easily legible. I've been using it exclusively for a long time, done a number of casual water tests and have come to really trust this ink.

Platinum Blue-Black, I've seen girliegeek's tests, but in my tests the ink rinses off much more easily, and what remains is quite faint. Again, I've tested both cartridge and bottle versions.

I'd rather keep my dollars local, as much as possible, even if it costs more.

Why buy imported inks when Noodlers and Private Reserve are made in the USA?
