HI

I bought a Marlen Basilea for $150 from Pengallery. I like the pen and the nib is very smooth, though it is a bit wet and broad for a Fine nib. Someone else on FPN bought one at the same time and had trouble with it skipping. I have had three Krones and all three skipped, and I believe Marlen makes Krone pens.

I think they are generally good pens with very smooth nibs. Maybe find out if there is a Marlen warranty center in the US, unless the idea of a trip to Italy does not bother you if there is a need for work.

I can't help with price, but if the seller is Martin from Woodbin in Canada, he is a really nice guy who has been around for some time. I have purchased one pen from him and all went well.

Maybe he would test the pen for you? Probably not, but it never hurts to ask politely.

I really like the look of the Journal and one or two of the other ones. Sorry I can not help more.

That's all?

I can remember that I loved my 2nd and 3rd pens, but it's taken me about 50-70 pens purchased, and some careful pruning to get to a collection that I can truly say has no bad apples, and which I truly appreciate. The one thing I learned it will take a while to get a feel for your taste, and you'll make lots of mistakes.

Heck Sam, just jump in. You can always buy more! ;)

well, those posts are so true, especially yours kendall. but id prefer to do a little more research and get closer to nailing it on the front end. not much is said about marlens, and that does not concern me until i hear that there are nib problems or fit and finish problems. the two up on PT are attractively priced, at $145 and i love blue, but id like to know more about marlen vis a vis other pens.
