i accidentally, i think, put the cap to my sheherazade on too tight and when taking the cap off, twisted the piston knob and spilt ink all over my hands. anyone else do this? i have learned to barely put the cap on now, and i can see why some people leave it unposted.

any other tricks of pistons i need to know?

Make sure you dont jam your cap on the piston knob when you post the cap. Also do not turn the cap after it is posted. Ink gets all over the place and it is really nasty. The pen I really have to watch out for is my Bexley Prometheus. The piston knob is comfortably smooth and moves quite effortlesley. That can also be a problem so this is one of the pens I normally do not post and if I do, I am very careful.

Yep, better be careful with piston fillers in this regard. Not all do this, though, like my personal favourite brand and model :D.

I start liking it even more, now <GDR>.

im learning. luckily i am usually at my desk writing with it.

i wonder what made most people, who have a bexley sheherazade, choose it? i love the filigree work on the cap band, i love the sparkles and the reputation of the pen and manufacturer. of course, i liked the fact i can visually see how much ink and also it is a piston filler.

I think you hit the nail on the head!! The looks, feel and the way it writes!!! Not only with the Blue but also the Grey, Pictures do not do it justice at all!!! No picture that I have seen has shown the silver chunks in the resin!!! These are super sharp looking pens. I like the torpedo shape of the pen and it is a lot larger when the cap is posted. The piston holds lots of ink infact I have to say that It holds more than my Pelikans.

Nope - never done that, but it is always possible.

As far as why Sheherazade, you got it right on the money, although I would have to mention the fanastic nibs!

I think I've been fine with piston fillers. However, I have been known to play with the little lever thingy on lever fillers. Not a good idea. And I've taken the blind cap off a lockdown filler, shown the mechanism to someone ("see, this unlocks like so") and then "oops, now what?"

Well, I once absently twisted the piston knob on my Windsor while the cap was *off*, and dumped ink in my lap. Yeah, those tricky little things catch you when you're not paying attention sometimes.

You are lucky. Trying to get a posted cap off I twisted the other way and cracked the piston filling knob on a vintage pelikan. jc

heh heh..

yes - and for the most part you'll not make the same mistake too many more times.

But even now there are times when I come close to twisting the piston knob instead of the cap. It was especially problematic when I had a Stypen Up! which was a retractable cartridge pen. Had been using it, twist to retract nib, twist to extend nib, etc. Picked up M200 - twist to extend nib... yikes! :)
