I know there are other trim styles out there, but if you had to choose either gold or silver/Rhodium/Platinum trim, which would it be?

I personally love :notworthy1: sterling silver, but I'm curious to what the majority is.

Kind of depends on the color, darker colors usually look great with gold. Emerald could work with both, mostly Gold, but black looks classy with gold.

I think all of my pens have silver (or a variation thereof) as trim... although I saw a gold-trimmed black Sheaffer Valor for the first time in the flesh today and it looks so good!

So then do you lean more towards gold pens?

I wish (more) companies would offer a choice. I'm very much a silver trim guy - gold trim is a bit of a turnoff for me. Then again it's probably better for my wallet that so many otherwise gorgeous pens are only offered in gold trim.

Although most of my current pens have Gold trimming, I am a silver kind of guy.

I wear a silver chain, my ring is white Gold, my watches are stainless steel. Am crazy about the Silver look. :puddle:

I grew up at a time when silver colored trim on pens meant a cheap pen. I have had too many bad experiences with cheap pens. i much prefer gold trim on pens. I like silver on sterling silver pens but a little gold accent even on those looks nice.

It's hard to get away from gold trim these days it seems. Some days I dislike the gold trim on things, others I don't mind it. I didn't like the idea of owning a pen with a gold cap until I got my hands on a 51 that had one, now I feel it kind of makes the pen stand out among others.

All but one of my small collecton has Rhodium or silver trim. I wish I could get an M1000 in black with Silver. Silver trim is to me just a little less flashy than yellow gold.

Here is the deal:

Gold for signature/desk pens.

Silver for your daily pen. Not too flashy!

Silver color is far different than sterling.

For real silver vs gold, I pick silver. I love the look of tarnished silver, and the idea of being able to make it shiny again with silver polish adds to the fun.

I personally don't have steriling pens, but I do have sterling silverware, and I like their dynamics.

Already said above. It depends on the colour of the barrel (and section).

Black barrel (section) -> gold or silver trim (YMMV).

Blue -> gold (IMO silver is not impossible)

Red -> silver (IMO gold is impossible)

Yellow -> silver (ditto, no?)

Good example: all M900s and 910s.

I didnt' vote, because I think it's like asking, "black tie or brown tie?" As many others have said, it depends on the pen. And if you don't believe that, take a side-by-side look at a Dolcevita OS in vermeil and another in silver. Then, tell me how you would always pick silver trim.

I enjoy the look of silver a lot. My watch is silver, and, when I used to wear them, my rings were silver.

However, I like black and gold on my pens. It looks very classic and elegant. I recently ordered a Sailor 1911 with rhodium trim, though, and I'm pretty excited. It might just change my opinion on the whole matter!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
