Cavallini journals

Bought my first Cavallini journal today - the 8x5 with a travel cover to use as a travel diary. Very disappointed to find the variance in how it accepts fountain pen. For the price and reputation I expected much better.

My Parker Duofold (modern) with an itallic nib skips over the paper and leaves blanks. Never happened on any other paper. Tried another Duofold with a fine nib and it hates it too.

Anyone else had any experiences - Cavallini are everywhere. Over priced - ordinary quality.

Just can't find a decent travel diary anywhere.

Sorry to hear your dissapointment over the Cavallini journals.

Personally I have only good to say about the QV Habana jounals, the European made ones I must add. (Some posts have indicated that there has been some disappointment with the American made journals.) I order them from: http://www.quovadis-diaries.co.uk/acatalog/HABANA_NOTEBOOKS.html

I´m also very pleased with the Swiss Canteo journals, but the problem there is that they are hard to find outside Switzerland.

I am an Habana fan too - the notebooks I have are fantastic to use and very FP friendly. I was very surprised and most disappointed with my Cavallini experience, although the paper is a little better than Moleskin. Then again I have napkins that are more FP friendly than Moleskin.

I am curious if anyone else has had such a bad experience with these journals. I tried it again with a range of fountain pens and they all had some problem, mainly skipping or the ink not writing evenly on the paper. These journals aren't cheap and the paper is very ordinary.

Just noticed this thread. Sorry for being late.

I bought 3 of the small Cavallini journals at my local Waldenbook store. They were on special at 75% off which made them attractive to me. Not very well pleased with the paper. Doesn't take FP well AT ALL! At first it looks like the ink doesn't stick to the paper. Like writing on greasy paper. Then you aee the terrible bleed through on the other side. Tried 3 different pan/ink colour combos. No go. My rollerballs are fine, though including two Parkers with gel refills. Don't understand all I know about this. Plus there is no ribbon to mark one's place. I am debating whether to just toss them as I only paid about 4 for them.

Yes - same here. They are much worse than Moleskin. Just don't bother trying them if you are a FP user. I binned mine after trying a few pen ink combos.

I agree, inky. I love the covers, but the paper was a letdown.

Why, sometimes I'd like to take a switchblade and a peppermint and a Cadillac and throw it all in a fire.

I have the large Roma Lussa from Cavallini. The paper is fine with all my fountain pens, and with all the inks that I have. The leather cover is great. I do not have any of their other products though.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
