Noodler's Heart of Darkness

Nice review. Does anyone have a Heart of Darkness/Old Manhattan Black comparison?

Wish-list: Parker 51 India Black Vacumatic. Green Parker Vacumatic Maxima. Visconti Homo Sapien. Aurora Optima and Vintage 88. Lamy 27. Sheaffer Pen For Men V. Moss-Agate Waterman Patrician, Pelikan Souverän M450. I just need to win the lottery now.

I have been using HOD extensively for the past few weeks, and I can honestly say I have not seen any traces of feathering on any of the papers that I have used, and it has been used in my Pelikan IB and Visconti Stub which are superbly wet.

The horror! The horror!

I wanted a black ink, and for my sins, they gave me one

I just received a bottle of HOD and its terrible! Its like someone diluted the ink, it writes dark grey, nothing like the sample seen above. I flushed the pen several times, no better results. It also came with a free Noodler's pen, all I can say is, its worth what i paid for it...

What paper are you using what pen and nib? Need the full story to get the picture...

At first I loaded it into the free Noodler's pen that came with it, which I thought first to be the culprit. But then I loaded it into a Lamy Safari with a fine nib and got the same results.

The paper was standard 20lb copy paper which easily holds any of the other Noodle's inks I have, which include:

Forest Green

Bulletproof Black

Red-Black (my new fav)

Mauve

Tiananmen Red

American Eeel Blue

Blue Ghost

My suggestion. . . Shake up the bottle. Shake it thoroughly for about a minute, as if it were a can of spray paint. Some of the "bulletproof" inks need this from time to time.

That's pretty good advice, I can't believe I didn't even think of it; probably because I've never had a problem using ink right out of a new bottle. Dah... :headsmack:

Not liking it so much - nib creep and feathering. Happily, I paid only for a sample.

I'll be sticking with my favorite standard Bulletproof Black. Great in my Namiki Falcon and Phileas with a 0.7 CI nib.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
