What's the largest nib tip you've ever seen

I was looking up some info on one of my favorite Montblanc models when I came across this sight:

It's a 5B nib. Yes, BBBBB. I'd never even imagined anything beyond BBB, for standard writing instrument production nibs. Beautiful!

A 51 stub (I think) from the 60s. Or is it a BBB? I replaced it with a simple B (I think) but I still have the stub/BBB (I know).

Define calligraphy nib? That BBBBB is a calligraphy nib in that it makes the same writing. By calligraphy nib do you mean an untipped nib?

I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass, just not sure...

I believe this is a highlighter pen made by Richard Binder. I don't remember everything, though, and the thread I found had a disappeared picture. Luckily, I save these momentous things for later viewing. I hope no one minds my re-uploading this.

Thanks, Aaron--you're right. I couldn't quite think of the right terminology. Untipped is it. :)

Tom, I had heard of Tardiff nib modifications, but had never seen one of those. Remarkable and a funny coincidence that it's on eBay at this moment.

That IS an impressive looking Pelikan nib, Will. Good thinking on saving that image. It looks like it might be even larger than 5B!

Nibmeister Binder calls his ulta-wide nib "The Platypus," because as Thibaulthalpern said, it looks like a duck bill.

Good grief! And im was going to chime in with a rather generous Pelikan BB (but in reality should be a BBB) of my acquaintance....Feeling totally outclassed with this 5B (hhhmm sounds like a pencil) :hmm1:

Agreed. And who'd have thought those time traveling dwarves would manage to find a black striped MYU along the way. ;)

That's great! I'd love to give that a try with proper highlighter ink.

I have seen photos of very large nib points, though the 5B and Platypus have got to be varsity winners. The largest nib point I have seen in real life was a 3B Pel M-1000 nib, which I thought looked like a spade. I would love to write with a 5B just to see what it feels like.

My friend Vivek from over on Pentrace has some interesting nibs. I was visiting his apartment a few weeks back, and he showed me a Parker 51 that had a Nathan Tardiff modified nib which measured 5mm across!!! Also saw a nib that actually looked like it was the head of a hammerhead shark!!!!
