Pelikan m215

TMann

Recommended Posts

I just received my new black Pelikan m215 in the mail today, so I thought I'd post some pics. It's a great pen! It has a very stylish, modern design, yet it also manages to retain that "classic" Pelikan feel. The nib is a very smooth fine, thanks to Richard B. I think that this pen will probably bump my Namiki VP from it's place as my main "go-everywhere" pen. :)

Thanks for sharing in my enjoyment!

Oh - that is beautiful, TMann!

That's it - I have to have one!! Now, what to sell....hmm :)

Question: I saw pics at Pendemonium that made the cap look translucent. Is that the case? Looks to have good opacity in your pics.

Great photos, by the way. That is a sweet looking pen for sure.

Enjoy!!

Hey Ryan,

Nope...no translucency (sp?) in that cap at all. It's a pretty standard black m200 series cap. :)

Good - that's what I was hoping for! Other than the ink window, I like my pens pretty opaque (except for that there Vacumatic in my avatar :) ).

I really like the styling of this pen.

TMann, that's a handsome pen indeed. Looks better than their blue/black model.

TMann,

these are nice.

I have the 05 model (blue/black) in a fine and I liked it so much I got the black in XF.

I really like these and the blue one is my everyday pen

enjoy

Hi Tmann,

That is a pen that could well budge me from my "51" and Sonnet obsession

How does it compare size a weight wise to a "51", bearing in mind that I usually write with an unposted cap?

So how fine is the fine? With the RB magic I would be shocked if it was not smooth. I prefer a US "51" nib on the medium side of fine if that helps.

Thanks

a very nice pen and pics, tmann. i like the design direction that pelikan is heading into these days - even the piccadilly circus! good to see them branching out from their staid green stripe or plain black look, although their limited editions are generally way over the top.

got my eye on the souveran 625 w/sterling silver with blue lacquer stripes cap and translucent blue body...

OK, I have been debating between the black and the blue 215....

Both appeal to me, but I am going nuts trying to figure out which is classier... I have no where to see either of them up close and personal...

Which has a classier look... currently I have my 2 Burgundy Pelikans and am looking for a different one.... anyway someone could post a picture of them side by side for comparison...

This Pel addiction is horrible...

It's a beauty! Normally I don't care for black pens, but the silver bands really make this model look classy. :) Congrats--and enjoy your new pen.

Great photos! Love the pen and will eventually get it in this color as well. I already have the blue/black and don't know what I'd do without it. Enjoy :D

Very nice pictures, Ted!

Thank you for sharing!

I agree with Ann, those bands make it very special. Reminds me of a Copernicus pen, just can't remember the brand.

  • 2 months later...

As much as I've loved using my Pelikan m215, I kept thinking that it would be just a bit more enjoyable to use if it had a nice stub nib, rather than the original fine nib that I bought with it. So...a quick call was made to Richard Binder's "House of (nib) Magic" and within a week, I was the proud owner of a beautiful, smooth and wet 0.6 mm stub nib. Mmmm...very nice! My little Pelikan has been transformed, and is once again my favorite writer. :D

TMann,

I've been thinking about a Binder Stub nib in the same size. (I'm just waiting for a week to go by when I don't buy a fountain pen!) How does your new stub nib compare to your Binder adjusted fine nib? Is it actually smoother than the fine? I realize it has more line variation and is probably a little wider line?

Very nice pen!

Thanks.

Hi Ron,

Well, it's a bit hard to compare them directly, since the fine nib is now washed and store away, while the stub nib is currently on the pen. Yes, the line is definitly wider in the downward direction, while it is approximately equal in width when written in the horizontal direction. (I hope that made sense...) The line variation is at least a 2:1 ratio.

In regards to the smoothness of the nib, it feels just as smooth as any nib in my collection. Richard Binder does an amazing job in creating a nib that has smooth corners and a large "sweet spot." His stub nibs write really well at almost any angle; they are also very forgiving of those times when the pen is slightly rotated. In short they are very easy nibs to write with and can be used for almost all "normal" writing.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
