Namaskar to you all

I happened to know about this network one year ago as I thought of buying a good pen for myself. So the searching took a long time and finally found the address of Ratnam pens of Rajah mundry. Then I ordered pens from Ratnam ball penworks and now I have :

No.302 -Mottel red,Black,Tiger white,Green (all in torpedo design)

No.32-Mottel red,Green (Plot design)

Kalam-As these pens were used by Judges in the court .But ratnam sons have modified in a way that you can fill by turning the suction part and fill then close. But still looks like a dip pen.One should have appropriate holder for it as it does not have cap.

I am sorry now I stay in middle east.I dont have photographs.

My friends ,I have a humble collection ,still would like to share with you.

Waterman -whole body in steel.

Pilot-mini -whole body in brushed matte steel.

Sheaffer-With steel cap

Pierre cardin-medium priced.

Wality-two 69T

Hero

Wing sung

So as I have very few collection. But now I have started preserving these pens a lot.But for me I would say frankly out of these Ratnamsons No.302 gave me a perfect balance and fine writing.First time I felt as if a pen is made for me.

I had already made a calligraphy set with four section parts from Ratnamsons.Dr.Ramanamorthy made it with much perfection.

I hope some of you are aware he recently made a pen in gold pricing Indian Rs.100000.Since he dont advertise like othrs and keeps a low profile , much people dont know it.

Ratnam pens were given to the First person of Soviet Union Nikita KRUSCHEV and statesman Bulganin. And many ambassadors and Statesmen use Ratnamsons "Supreme" range of pens made of imported ebonite and exclusive 14ct gold nibs.So my friends I received one year ago some articles published in magazines and newspaper cuttings from Sri.Ramanamorthy on my "request".

He makes very expensive pens with engraving .Moreover in exclusive pens he ,on request fix gemstones like Ruby,Emerald and sapphire etc.

Above all I would like to thankt a person who don't know me ,but would like to give a salute for all the informations I got from the forums...the man is ......"HARI".

Well, now this humble member would like to pause here. Many greeting to you all.

Thanks for your attention

Well, hello there too.

That is a very nice introduction. Some newbies here only want to know what their pen is or what they should buy.

All best regards.

Hellow,

Thank you verymuch indeed for the compliment as well as your appreciation towards my introduction.Basically I dont have much money to purchase high end pens.Still in future I'll buy the German ones.

What do you eally feel about the guider celloid pens.Acoording to my observtions of the photographs of the red celloid pens posted by the members shows a loss of colour or fading in some areas.I mean since they use very old stock does it causes disintegration in the materials and causing the loss of finish.

I would love to buy a celloid pen due to it's "Jewel" like appearence in certain model of some companies ,but those comes in big cash!

Well ,thank you to all.

Dear Abik,

Good Morning!

Thank you for giving me an opportuinity to express my little experience with you.

Yes it is very intriguing fact about kalam.

As I did write yesterday in my introduction about "Kalam" ,was used by older generation many decades ago.Now it is used by judges in Andhra Pradesh.Well , I myself asked him is there any availability of dip pen ,but after much conversation with him over telephone he told me the name as "Kalam" as in hindi Kalam means Pen.

My interest towards the Kalam is that I really like the "majestic old-world charm".So I just wanted to experience the same how the people in the Black and White era had.So My pen is approximately six inches. It is pointed towards the back. The whole body is of same colour , so as to conceal the section and barrel division. One , for the first appearence fels that it is a single stick. But on much examination you find the joining.

I have one mottel brick colour and a Black colour.Three sizes are available and three diffrent nib sizes according to size of the pen.One should have a holder to keep it as there are chances of nib being damaged if not kept carefully as it does'nt have cap.

It writes well as as you know it is hand made. You have to fill the pen using an eye dropper.I really like it.I use JK excel bond paper for writing and Bril ink (on Sri .Ramanamorthy suggestion as Bril is very cheap ,but far better that the Parker quink made in India).Bril have deep colour ,where as parker quink fades slightly once the ink gets dry.

Now Mr.Abik , coming to calligraphy ; you first have to draw lines of different width and send it to him by post and then ring him up to chose whether to choose No.32 or No.302.It is comapratel cheap with giants (Brand value) like Sheaffer or Staedler or parker. He charges very reasonable price. My calligraphy pen set is of green colour with black grains and curved desigh with four section parts in black colour.I use Camel Fount ink for the particular purpose.

Friend , I am very sorry I cannot provide photographs.I recently got job in U.A.E. and I dont have photograph. But I suggest that all these I bought is based on telephone calls , once you ask various topics ,you will get to know more Ratnam pens.Next time when you call him ,ask for their email address and then you can ask various doubts and finally buy a desirable pen.

I am sorry if I did bore you with my story and please forgive for my poor english as I dont have much word power ,I cannot present in a very technical way.

Dont worry Abik , there will be many people of similar frequencies wandering and one day they will meet and gets what they want.....

So , my regards to you and all of you in the network.

Thanks for your attention

Frankly speaking,Once I did talk with him through phone few months ago. When I told about Ratnam pens ,he immediately spoke ill of them about their quality and finish. Then I felt this person is a bussiness minded fellow. If you notice ,Hari,Ramanamorty charges very reasonable price for his good pens.HE is really a respectable "Gentleman" ,the master penmaker.I was very sad when Mr.Rao spoke ill of Ratnam. As Swami Vivekananda has told "A person who works silently is the real hero".I consider Mr.Ramanamorthy as a Hero.As his clients are from eminent personalities. He said to me that now-a-days he is very busy with gold nibbed pens.

As I did ask you earlir in your post ,how come the celluloid material not getting finished evn after making mcuh pens at Guier factory. Are they lying that they have old stock.Or is it that they get celluloid from any discreet local manufacturer. As ebonite is now a days in many parts of India.I am sorry to say Guider charges much than Ratnam for their pens. But as you'll be knowing they worked in Ratnam's factory in old times.

Your review about Airmail pens helped me a lot.I bought two 69t with transparent barel.THey are like Ratnam No.302.Airmail is very nice to write and the smooth "handy" feel as you wrote in your review was perfect.First when I heard about Wality pens I felt that of cheap plastic pen.Once I saw it I felt so happy.I have one with violet cap and green one with fine tip.Frankly they are nice. But Hari they make with acrylic and their pens comeas at Rs.125 and Guider ,Mr.Rao charges Rs.500 for medium sized acrylic pen!

Can you tell me Hari ,How much it costs for Ka We Co ,Germany fountain pens in Indian Rupees.

Well, thank you for your compliment.

Good Luck

Arjun Pandit.

Hello and welcome to the FPN. I have three Pelikans and love them dearly, as they really write so nicely. You can't go wrong with a Pelikan when it comes to modern pens. :D

Arjun, I have already posted answers to your questions in the Guider post itself.

...Or is it that they get celluloid from any discreet local manufacturer. As ebonite is now a days in many parts of India...

There are a very few sources for Ebonite in India and certainly none (that I know of) for pen grade celluloid. Very few sources for both these materials worldwide too.

Can you tell me Hari ,How much it costs for Ka We Co ,Germany fountain pens in Indian Rupees.

Kaweco is not marketed here so the only way is to buy them online. I have no idea regarding the prices.

Hari

Hellow Hari,

Thank you for your reply.I really do respect your sharing mentality to others and your love towards different materials.

Well, as you wrote ,I did check the Guider post and found the required information. But candidly speaking ,I am fascinated by the Leader celluloid pens from Brahman. They look regal and Jewel like appearence with a gleam.I would like to know how much it costs for one with steel nib.And please also tell me the address and telephone number of Brahman pens and if possible their email address.

Now ,I would like to know about the good steel nibs available in India and their names. In Trichur ,Kerala there is asmall shop named "Pen-Hospital".The proprieter's name is Naseer. He is been shown in Telivison ,newspaper as he is a pioneer in repairing pens of all kind.He adjusts the nibs too.I happened to show the Ratnmasons No.302 and No.32 and he had a bight smile and told these pens have real iridium tip and the ebonite pens are strong and can last for many years.

So, dear Hari what do you feel about the Genius nibs used by Ratnam.I felt very smooth and fine writing on the JK exel bond paper.Frankly speaking (though I have no big collection) I felt very nice the No.302's that the sheaffer.Waterman,Pilot which I have.It might be due to the customisation done by Sri.Ramanamorthy himself .

Finally , I thank you for your patience and responding in detail.

With regards from U.A.E

Arjun Pandit

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
