Caran d'ache nib quality

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've looked in the review, and people seem to like the caran d'ache nib... but there were only a total of 4 reviews...

Any comments on smoothness, quality, consistency would be much appreciated!

Regards,

I don't think they make their own nibs. Likely made by Schmidt or Bock (sp?). So the nib quality is just like Bexley, Visconti, Aurora, or others that have their nibs made outside (that's a good list, right?).....IOW, very nice.

IME, most of the nib-to-nib variation you get on end-user pens is due to lack of QC by the pen maker or poor fitting, not by the actual nib maker.

I have a CdA Dunas with a steel F nib and it's the best steel nib I have. Can't comment on the gold nibs.

Regarding the lack of reviews: There are a lot more reviews floating around that board than are listed on the "Review Database" thread, so you should do a search if you want to find more :)

EDIT: To elaborate further on why the CdA nib is the best: It's just perfect for my preferences--not too wet, not too dry, fine line is what I feel a (Western) fine line should be, and it doesn't dry out too quickly if I pause for a couple minutes during my writing.

EDIT 2: Oh, and nice shading, too, if you like that. If not, just use a more saturated ink (I use mine with Diamine Mediterranean Blue).

I, too, have a CdA Dunas and find the steel nib crisp and consistent.

I have 2 Caran d'Ache fountain pens. One with a medium steel nib and one with a fine gold nib.. They are both awesome nibs. Both are very stiff, but super smooth. They're neither too wet nor too dry and take any ink I put in them very well. I highly recommend Caran d'Ache fountain pens. They are among my favorite brand of pens for both looks and quality.
