I am relatively new in fountain pens and I was wondering if anyone has tried the Duke fountain pens. The one on ebay are between 10.00 and 25.00 dollars. What do you like about them and would you recommend them to a new user as myself?

D.marcus B) B) B) Hi There I read your comments with interest I have a couple of the duke pens which are quite nice however the Chinese pen that I like best are JINHAO & BAOE, I am the proud owner of some 40 or so of these in all shapes and sizes, they are generally large pens but the nibs leave ANY other brand which costs ten times what these cost for dead, they are just the smoooooooothest writers. The best site to buy these is gotoschool888 on ebay they have the best prices and are good with postages. Bryan

Just took delivery today a Duke Carbon Fibre FP - frankly amazed at the quality. :yikes: For the sum of $15 inc international postage I'm almost tempted to forget about my aspirations to procure either a MB 146 or Pelikan M800!

Disclaimer: OK, I know the novelty will wear off soon enough but nevertheless, for the price, this is an awesome pen!

"Go on doing with your pen what in other times was done with the sword" - Thomas Jefferson, 1796.

Current lineup in play:

PELIKAN 400NN (OB) & (F) M600 (M), AURORA 88 (M), CROSS ATX (M) TOWNSEND (M), OSMIROID 75 (M), TWSBI 530 (F),

Depends on the model. I have a Harlequin, a 600, and an (1853??), all under $20 and all with fairly nice nibs.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I own two of these, coded 912 and 996.

Both came in a set with a rollerball.

The 912 with "Greek key design" is the bigger one of these, quite heavy. The 996 has a very unusual (and very unpractical) clip design.

The stainless steel nibs of these pens are the same, very stiff and smooth. Nothing wrong if you like stiff nibs.

The converter looks somewhat cheap, but works very well.

The problem is in the finishing. The lacquer looks ok, but gets easily damaged. On one of them (912) it just chips off, on the other one (996) "bubbles" form in the lacquer. The cap of the 912 does not post anymore after a few months of use and the cap of the 996 does not close well.

I was just doing some searching for the topic of 'Duke 1853' just to see if anyone else has or had one. Nothing there but plenty on Duke itself, like this thread. I notice it has not been active since 2010, but thought I'd add my 2 cents worth today.

I just received a Duke D07 pen from China; it has 'Duke 1853' on the side of the cap. A medium nib. I've tried all my usual methods for cleaning it prior to inking and then inking up and cannot get the pen to write with adequate flow. A very dry writer when it does write. It skips all over the place. And no way to lay down a square of ink by back&forth action.

I've never had a pen act like this. Perhaps I've been lucky.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
