Important! Pelikano series pens and converters

Hi,

Because the Pelikano has a shorter and thinner cartridge connector than most pens, it is important to use a converter that is new (or used exclusively in Pelikano series pens) when installing a converter in it. And once you have a converter for the Pelikano, do not use it with any other pen. Once you use it in another pen, the connector on the other pen often stretches the converter seal slightly, just enough that is doesn't often fit well in the Pelikano anymore and may leak at that point if used.

It may be possible to shrink the seal on the converter back to its original size by dipping only the tip 2 mm of it in hot water. You may try this at your own risk. Be careful!

All Pelikano pens, once the barrel is screwed down will exert some slight compression on the seal of the converter or installed cartridge. This is normal and will prevent leaking

The same applies to cartridges. Only use cartridges that have only been used in a Pelikano pen. Cartridges are often more tolerant to the stretching than converters are though.

From my experience, Schmidt converters happen to work the best in the Pelikano. Most current pen companies have Schmidt converters including Pelikan, Dani-Trio, and most other brands. I recommend the Schmidt type K5 with the clear plastic window and brushed/matte finish screw-down metal ferrule. This is the same converter as the Pelikan C499.

Hi,

Yes. It appears to be based on the Pelikano to a certain degree, and the design of the connector is the same.

It also applies to the Jr. and the older models as well as the Script pens.

Does this mean you shouldn't use short Pelikan cartridges, as there won't be a compression on the seal?

Steve - it's probably less than ideal, and I suppose there's a danger of it coming loose, but I use short cartridges frequently in my Pelikano. When I remember to, I put another cartridge in there (so, two shorts, butt-end to butt-end) to give it that security and compression, but just as often I forget, and it's fine. I've used both short Pelikan and short international cartridges (I don't know if they're actually identical, or close enough for government work) and haven't had a problem.

Yes, that is recommended, having two short cartridges or one long cartridge in the barrel. :)

Doesn't affect me: my Pelikano has a Lamy converter, permanently sealed in place with hot-melt glue, with an aluminum extension sticking out a hole in the butt of the pen.

Now if I knew exactly what kind of plastic Pelikanos were made of, that would be nice, given that my first attempt to paint the thing brown was a dismal failure.

A friend of mine has successfully used an Aurora converter in her Pelikano Jr.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
