Looks GREAT! Well organized and clean.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Gerstner should make a dedicated pen box.

So I must put my overhaulled Union and Gerstner used during my Engineering career to another use.

That sir, is a gorgeous cabinet!

My desk is a dining table that I use for work. It was less expensive than any office desk I could find at Ikea. It is somewhat huge, but the space is useful for having a typewriter, my laptop or books at hand.

Directly behind me, when I set there, is my writing supply closet where the sick amount of stuff (pencils, inks, notebooks) is stored.

My more expensive pens that are not inked are kept in the vault where I store my knives.

I´ve lately been trying to minimize my possessions to some extent, but you could still lock me up in a writing supply store over a weekend and have a happy camper.

Seeing this setup, just makes me think it is possible to love a workspace :)

The desk is not a neccessary "work"-space for me, it is just a sphere that I feel to be needful for hobbies...;)

I hope I have a better computer!

But, yes, this room is essentially unchanged since it was built some time in the 1960s.

However, it was flattering to hear that it looks like something from a movie!

It might amuse you to know that the real-life teacher who was the inspiration for Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series taught chemistry at the equivalent of a high school in Britain, likely in a room much like yours (though I doubt the cabinetry looked so good).

A friend of mine counted him as a personal friend and has wonderful tales to tell about his caustic attitude stemming from his need to keep the students safe against those same students' carelessness with hydrochloric acid and the like.

I attended junior high science class in a room that looked a lot like yours. The tables were the same in my physical science classes at university as well, but those tables were taller and we sat on stools.

Is there life before death?

It is funny to hear about the inspiration for Professor Snape. I know that my personality could never inspire such a character. I'm glad to hear my cabinetry looks good. I take care of my stuff, and one of the things I like about North Dakota is that people in general take care of things. My predecessors also took good care of the room.

It's worth noting that my room is not up to modern code, and there is a much nicer science room next door, but the man teaches classes that would be fine in my room: anatomy, geology, and advanced biology. When I interviewed for this job, I was shown his room and was told that it would be mine. After I signed the contract, a math teacher was put in that room and I got my current room. I made it work, but probably would not have signed the contract had I known that would happen. At least now there is an actual science teacher in that room.

I've taught in several schools in two different states. I have also visited a number of schools. I won't say the school where I teach is the best I've ever seen. It's not. The best science room I've ever seen is in Underwood, North Dakota. But, my school does have very nice facilities, and even the rooms like mine that have not yet been renovated are still in very good shape. I've taught in some rather depressing classrooms.

What sits in front of my computer:

http://s271.photobucket.com/user/dick168/media/P1030455_zpsdd1d78c9.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0

My good Pelikan pens and other German pens of the 50s are neatly stashed and semi-organized, the rest are in cups representing various Royal marriages and other remembrances. My mechanical pencils (mostly FEND) are in a glass jar. Books, stationery, art materials, are in disarray in drawers, shelves, and piles.

How I get anything done is a wonder. Well, maybe I don't get anything done.

I wrestled with putting a picture of my desk on FPN, for my desk is a combination of the kitchen table and an extended counter top. The item you see behind my books is my bread machine/oven/toaster. :) However, this is where I do all of my studies and writing biblical study materials. At the end of the day, that small space is where I squeeze in a meal. I keep some pens handy in a specimen rack and always a bottle of ink at hand.

Just an hour or so ago I was moved to a new area. While my new office is in a hallway near the toilet it is bright, airy, and has more space. There is also more of a cool breeze.

What an amazingly clean desk. My desk isn't that clean even after I move it.

I agree - a wonderful setup! I'm inspired to go clean up my desk now. :)

Is that a plain leather blotter that you're using?

It is some inexpensive faux leather thing from Aldi, I think. I am too frugal for a pricey one and wouldn´t want it to get cuts. It gets exchanged every other year.

Mine needs to be seriously decluttered. As is it can't be used. I am posting from my laptop and a Levenger Lapdesk in the bedroom. Have a desktop in a different basement room, that has some space available, but the desk takes up so much. Big metal HON with return and a matching credenza Plus a stand for my printer. Fills the room up..... Getting that desk out of there will be a nightmare. (will have to take it apart probably)

  • 1 month later...

I've been busy this winter remodeling my home office.

Here's my old desk. Served me well for about 30 years.

And here's the new built-in desk that I made.

Here's my little table for working on pens.

And of course every desk needs a desk pen or two, or maybe 34 :)

I used a pen tray from GO PENS in one of the center drawers.

Thanks for looking.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
