I never thought of it as being a horror novel! But I suppose in a way it is. I've only read it once (it's likely I'll read it a second time after I've bought my own copy). The main thing that lingers in my memory are the journeys the footnotes take the reader on, especially the whole labyrinth passage. I have to confess I ended up getting a little lost (I'm guessing it was the author's intention), but since that section was about a labyrinth I didn't mind too much at all. It's certainly a challenging read.

When I first read it, I found I was unable to sleep after. Also, I was a fan of Poe (the author is her brother) at the time and her eponymous album, House of Leaves, gave me chills every time I listened to it after.

It took years for me to actually purchase a copy- I'd always forgo it in favor of other things.

I'm looking into building a new desk. Before I take the plunge, I may just try to shuffle things around to have my roll-top in here with the drafting table, so I can keep all my writing separate from the art stuff.

So I got in one of those... moods yesterday to change things up a little. You may recall this madness:

Well here's how things are now:

And on the next wall over, under the mantle (in front of the long-since-closed-off fireplace):

(The laptop table gets shifted around the room; usually it's at the couch, which is where I was sitting when I took the picture)

Oh! And silly me, forgetting the close-up of the writing desk:

I'm thinking of painting most of it red and... doing something to the writing surface. I don't know what. It's just a cheap pressboard thing, so there's not much that could be done.

Love that desk, Auspice!

You want messy ? biggrin.gif

What is that platform or stand called that elevates your writing surface? I really like the one you have and need to get one, otherwise I hunch over the table.

These are wonderful, Ken; excellent as they contain all the necessary food groups, and ink :)

My workstation at home. I am bargaining to get something like this for work. My supervisor and the Labor Relations Manager agree with my design, but unfortunately it violates too many company policies. I took this series of pictures a couple of months ago when the guys at work were commenting on the horrible condition of my work space at work. They wanted to know what my desk looked like at home. I showed them that I could be rather civilized when I was not working in barbaric conditions:-)

If you're big into Poe, there is a red ink named after him from Organics Studios. It's kind of a brick red, not an arterial red. :)

I guess it is an amontillado red.

That looks AWESOME!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Well, I can add escritoire to the increasingly long list of words that I never ran across despite taking 4 years of French.

I love yours and betweenthens's.

Forgive me for correcting you but in french it is said un Ecritoire (no S), not Escritoire.

In portuguese it is said Escritorio - which is much more used to define the office room, with the semantic evolution.

I adore your Pasadena true joke. It is wonderful

Nothing fancy, just my grad student office. Note the pile of Rhodia pads and assorted Varsities and Safaris I have laying about (there is also a mug of Heros and my plastic pen rinsing cup with some ink samples back there! I am nicely settled in)
