How to remove nib from Aurora Optima

Can anyone tell me how to remove the nib from an Aurora Optima? I know how to unscrew Pelikan nibs. Is it the same design?

Thanks.

Current favorite pen: Montblanc 144 Meisterstuck purchased at Art Brown in 1984. After decades, every part has been replaced except the nib. Still a gorgeous writing instrument, rock-solid reliable, gives me hours of pleasure to use.

Current favorite paper: Romeo notepads

Rest the feed in your index finger while placing your thumb on the nib. Holding the nib in that fashion, turn the pen body counter clockwise to unscrew the nib unit. It should unscrew with minimal pressure.

It works the same way. You need to grip the nib and section together firmly and twist in a counterclockwise direction.

aurora nibs are friction fit to the section.

The nib/feed unit is not friction fit into the section. The nib/feed unit unscrews from the section. Do not try to grab the section and the nib together and unscrew both together as a unit.

Are Aurora Optima / 88 nibs screwed in more tighly from the factory than Pelikans? For Pelikan, I can unscrew the nib by pinching the nib / feed with my left hand and turn the body clock wise with my right hand. For some reasons, I have not been able to unscrew both 88 and Optima's nibs.

They can be very tight. There is an O-ring at the base of the nib unit which leads to this tightness. i will not force it, the feeder fins might break off.

Thank you, Hari. So, it seems Aurora's nib swap is not as practical and customer friendly as Pelikan's.

It usually is just as easy as a Pelikan. I've removed all of mine several times.

Only on one occasion did I have a problem with two pens that I received back from Aurora service. I sent them because the collars had stretched and the nibs slid; they definitely changed the feeds and I suspect the collars as well. Anyway, I could not hand unscrew them when I received got them back, and even let a couple a skilled repairers give it go -- one even used heat -- to no avail. I sent them back Aurora and asked them if it was normal; once they had the pens they said they were tight but nonetheless the repair tech could unscrewed them.

I asked that they send me back the pens with the nib units out, which they did. I had put the nibs on my least valuable, i.e. resin, Optimas for repair, but I wanted to put the repaired nibs on a different pens.

I recently removed the nibs from an 88 and an Optima. I've owned both pens for more than 15 years and this was the first time I've tried to remove the nibs on them. The nibs on both were very tight. I soaked them nib down in a glass with water covering the nib just up to the section. I was able to remove one after soaking for 24 hours and the second one after soaking for 48 hours.
