?Stolen Fountain Pens?

Flashheart

Recommended Posts

Hello

I recently purchased a number of fountain pens from someone on e-bay. The prices were only up to $5, with cost of postage about $8 per pen. The pens look much better than what I expected, though my Mother-in-law states their company gets nice heavy custom labeled biros for only $1.50 each (incl. postage). Most of the pens I received have a word followed by three numbers put like a band around the base of the pen lids. For example, "Huashilar 888", "Mikeer 908" and "Lanbiton 986". I have not found much help using Google. Could you advise if these are possibly stolen, and how I can get them back to the owner. I would obviously prefer to go through authorities so that I can find the correct owner. Cheers. :hmm1:

they sound like chinese-made pens to me, in which case i very strongly doubt they're stolen, as that's what they would cost (even less, of course) in a chinese department store. don't worry about it. if you check the entire "fountain pens" section on ebay, you'll find new pens going for $2 plus maybe $6 shipping. that's how cheap they can go.

If you think they are stolen, you should call the police. Maybe someone reported them? I imagine they might assign a detective to the case.

:roflmho: Yeah, right.

Well, that would be the reaction if you took it to the Kent Police. Our local bunch of cowboys in blue have a policy of not turning up to break-in's, so how do you think they would they react to the repost of items being fenced on the web?

It took them 4 days to interview me when I'd been beaten up when walking home from work at 5.15pm.

Police: It'd be nice to have some.

Regards

Richard.

You should also call the FBI. They'll be interested in bringing down this pen trafficking ring. After all, they don't spend all their time tracking down UFO's.

They can send the pens to the crime lab, assign a few detectives to the case. Heck, they might even have them working in shifts.

Flashheart, welcome to FPN.

I think your concern is much ado about nothing. Chinese pens are often very cheap. I would just enjoy the pens if it were me.

A point on eBay sellers with very cheap prices:

eBay charges fees based on the cost of the item sold and not on the shipping. Hence a few sellers try sell for less that the item is worth and then make up the difference in shipping so they end up getting more money and paying eBay less.

So that $1 pen with $8 shipping may actually a $4 pen with $2 actually spent on shipping.

In reality that pen probably only cost them $1 and $2 to ship so they're making $5 pure profit.

e.g. I have heard that Wality eyedropper pens sell in India for around $1. They are on sale in eBay for anything between $15 and $25.

I can understand pen theft, but who would steal a man's CCR tapes?

You actually may want to hire a Private Detective for this kind of job.

As a few other serious responses have stated, it's nothing to worry about. Check out the Heros being sold here - this is from an online seller who is probably making a handsome profit, and some of his pens are 7 bucks.

Chinese pens are VERY cheap.

For added security, search for pens with the names you found on Ebay and other places. If they're stolen, they'll probably be thirty or forty bucks on other sites. That's when things start getting suspicious.

However, I'm just guessing that this guy is just selling really cheap pens.

Hope this helps!
