Mechanical Pencils?

Danosaurus, there are quite a few beautiful pencils on the market, but technically, the Pentel Kerry 0.5 is the best mechanical pencil I’ve ever had. I would recommend it if you wouldn’t have one!

I also have a Pentel Kerry 0.5, it is my favorite pencil. I love the cap mechanism, and it feels good in the hand.

Since we are talking about mechanical pencils I have a MB Meisterstück pencil which I saw woman throw out of her car window in a parking lot, maybe ten years ago. When I picked it up and offered it to her she said keep it because it didn't work. I took it home and put lead in it and it seems to work fine. I am thinking about selling it on ebay but would like to be sure it isn't a knock off. What should I look for? Should it have a serial number or some other mark I could check?

TIA

Jim

One ink to bring them all

One ink to rule them all,

and in the darkness bind them..

The only problem with the Kerry is it doesn't have an eraser!

I have a couple dozen pencils that match some of my pens, but the one I've got in my pocket today doesn't match any other writing instrument I own. The first person who can identify this pencil without cheating will win the inestimable satisfaction of having beaten out the competition. :)

Yes, the Kerry DOES have an eraser! It's hidden under the metal clicker button on top of the cap that's used to advance the lead. Mine is fairly new, so maybe it's a newer addition. On mine, I can only pull the button off if the cap is posted.

It's funny. I'll mortgage the south forty and the mule if a fountain pen strikes my fancy, but I must have a mountain of junky $2-$5 pencils, even though I draw with them every day.

Those Kerry's do look good! :D

All the best,

How can you tell when you're out of invisible ink?

I think it's a Parker - a Parkette specifically.

I am not sure if I found this out by cheating or not, however. I was checking out some of the antique dealers in Renton on my lunch break Friday, and a Parkette was among the new arrivals. Ding!

PS - and I hit pay dirt at one of those antique shops - I'll post later.

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

Mine is more than ten years old, and it has the eraser, too... B) Kurt’s problem may be that it’s a bit ... well, hidden...

  • Parker Jotter for chucking around.

  • Lamy 2000 (0.5mm) for normal use.

  • Lamy Scribble for carrying in the pocket.

I also have a lovely Pelikan D730 that matches the M730 FP but this doesn't get used much.

enjoy!

Richard,

Are you going to tell us what the mystery pen is?

Richard seems to be too busy with post-pen show work or something.

I couldn't help myself - I cheated. I looked at the file name. It is a Triad, a small pen company from Providence, Rhode Island. They had a unique cap where you had to turn a nob on top of the cap to remove the cap. Apparently lots of people didn't get it and broke the pen, so there are not many around.
