Hope the handwriting is legible....

Overall im pretty pleased with this pen with the only proviso that im not that keen on the screw thread for the cap. Perhaps this will get smoother over time.

Cant fault this for the money (32 usd +postage)

thanx for the review declanh,

 

the gold on the nib looks pretty even... i have a defferent model and mine has the gold plating all over the nib!!!!

 

mine is a good writer when it starts, and that's another thing, the nib dryes very quickly in a day or two of sitting around.

 

i wouldn't buy another Kaigelu, but i'm glad you are enjoying yours

I have found this to be a pretty good pen for the money. I, too, am not sure that I would buy another one, but the one that I have gets some use.

quick update on this after a few days use.

I changed the ink in this pen a few times just to experiment with different inks.

Having now tried

Diamine imperial purple, Diamine woodland green and diamine saddle brown ive noticed a bit of a problem with this pen.

When you write with this pen after a period of time it starts to get dryer and dryer until it eventually dries up completely.

This happened with both the brown and the green, dont know i wrote for long enough with the purple to be sure.

 

This can be temporarily "fixed" by giving the converter a turn and all is well for another page or two till it dries up again.

 

Ive swapped out the converter with a waterman converter that i had spare to see if it helps.

Anyone ever seen this issue before.

 

 

Update on the "scratchy" thread on the cap - this appears to be getting better with use.

It may be the ink - I have a pen that doesnt like Diamine ink - it is dry and as you said just stops writing after a while but it doesnt have the same problem with a Rotring cartridge. Give it a good flush to get rid of the Diamine and then try another make - hope it works out.

 

So I'm opinionated - get over it!!.......No, really - get over it!!

Hmmmm I was going to put up a WANTS list - but that's too long as well ......

I've never had a flow problem with any of the private reserves- sometimes quite the opposite. Not all pens like all inks.

I've had the problem with a Jinhao.

Does the convertor have a spring/ball or something similar in it to break the surface tension at the base? My Jinhao hasn't and it displays exactly the symptoms you're describing.

Nope, no spring or ball. Neither has the waterman converter i tried too which seemed to exhibit the same problem.

Ive been advised (by PM) that someone else has the same the problem and it goes away with cartridges.

I will try that next - thought I would prefer to use bottled ink.

Mine seems to have a bit of a flow problem. I've flushed it with the dilute diswashing liquid and that helped a bit. I still have to give it a few wrist flicks to keep the ink flowing after a while. I guess before the next refill I will try flushing it with dilute ammonia. It acts like the ink is hanging up in the converter.

 

Other wise a nice pen although I wish they had left the brass plug off the end. The pen does not have to be that heavy.

my kaigelu works best with Swisher midnight black and Skrip black!!... but still dries up!!

You can always put bottled ink in your empty carts! :thumbup:

After the washout with dishsoap and three fillings and writing out of the converter mine has stabilized and is flowing well with out any problems.

I too have a kaiglu and had to remove the nib and feed and give it all a good washing to get it flowing again. It would only write with the ink in the nib and feed and than stop writing. It all worked out in the end and its a very nice writer now.

i'm happy to report that my Kaigelu's point has lost all the gold plating. i'm glad because it looked very ugly the way it came... the plating was all over.

 

anyone else had same thing happened to it? that is, the plating coming off?

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
