Greetings,

You have a very good point. That seller may have been better served to call it ebony wood rather than mahogany. The ebony is so dark black and has such a tight grain while the mahogany is more red colored and has a wider grain.

But even that doesn't get to the fact that Waterman didn't make the Liaison in wood. And if they did, they wouldn't choose mahogany because it would change shape too fast and possibly crack. (Puns intended.)

Peace,

Phroneo

The liaison's nib is as dull and as boring as the edson's nib, do not buy it. You will be disappointed by this pen.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

=============

 Mad at Waterman

Now, now, Georges, we all know the LeMan is definitely in a class by itself, being the best pen Waterman ever thought to make. And yes, the Liaison nib is "different". Still, it is almost LeMan's cousin, as I believe Waterman was attempting to find a suitable replacement for the LeMan. Now that Waterman knows there is no such thing, I hope they will do a re-issue (uh, so I can get a blue Patrician and an Etoile and a gold-plated Specimen...).

Plus, I might be able to get this Liaison for cheap!

A re-issue of the LeMan 100 first generation (nib), but with the second generation appearance with the earth/world etching would truly be nice!

Sorry to hear George is unhappy with the Liaison nib.

It took several trips to fix its flow issues, but my Liaison has a very nice writing nib; as good or better than any of my 100s or Carene.

I like the Liaison very much.

It's a brown-black ebonite pen, almost certainly. They did make the Liaison in at least two shades of ebonite. I had an orange-black ballpoint that I finally sold.

I remember the plain black, the Cobra, the blue (I have that one), the orange ebonite. I think there was also a burgundy.

hmmm...if I win, it will be intersting to see what I get! :roflmho:

I concur with Deirdre, although the pictures are pretty awful.... looks like the brown ebonite which is actually pretty rare compared to the orange variant.

I know I am being really cynical, but I do not like the looks of this auction. I know of no LE Liaison, and none were made of wood. It is probably wood grain ebonite, like all the other Liaisons. That is two strikes against this seller - material and LE status - hence I would be very wary of dealing with him/her.

I am also sorry Georges does not like his Liaison nib. I have a factory stub on mine and it is an excellent writer.

I have the black one and it is my favorite color for this pen. It's not just another shiny black pen with gold trim. It's got a little zing to it, without going overboard, and it has a majestic presence :) It also has a funky barrel design.

OK, JML, that is what I thought. I do have the blue, and would like a Cobra, but I'[m sure they are all gone.

Nice photos, as usual!
