The notebook is a $4.95 Moleskine clone from Barnes & Noble. I normally buy the black or gray. but had a weak moment.

It's not a Moleskine brand but one of the look alikes. The tag says it is made in China for B&N. It doesn't have the pocket and the cover appears to be fabric on cardboard, like a hard cover book, instead of the "oilskin." I've only seen it with lined pages, but it comes in a variety of colors. The gray version is perfect in a photo bag; opened up you have a 5 1/2x 8 inch near-perfect matte gray card!

I don't know if the paper is archival but it is whiter and seems to work about as well with fountain pens as the Moleskine (I keep ink test pages in both). To me they are rugged working notebooks/journals, not status symbols. I don't baby them and they seem to take a beating. With my B&N discount, each cost the same as a Venti Latte in the same store.

I have half-filled Moleskines waiting for profound revelations while these get written in daily.

Bill,

Picked up a couple of these at B&N.

A gray and a black to keep notes in at work/home.

I couldnt justify the the extra bucks for a Moleskine.

It does a yeomans job for what I use it for....keeping notes & thoughts.

After a health crisis last year, I keep alot of notes and thoughts.

I havnt used FP ink, but it takes Parker Gel & G2 quite well.

My Cross ink is not ass bold as the previous but looks very nice also.

Is it summer yet?

Had to resurrect this thread if only so I could say, yes, it is definitely summer!

Except for our Aussie friends :P

Forgive me for a bit of backstory about the picture: I was training for a cycling event two years ago when the LiveStrong bracelets came out. I bought some for me and family members who were my support crew. Of course there was the cycling connection, but we wore them in honor of family and friends who have and have not survived cancer.

Then, a few weeks after I made the photo, my mother was diagnosed with cancer, actually two Stage 3 and Stage 4 cancers concurrently. I wanted to keep notes of meetings with doctors, treatment schedules, visits to Mom, phone calls, feelings, funny and sad stuff, quotes, and miscellaneous snippets in an attempt to capture as many memories as possible as we journey through what may be the last year of her life. The yellow notebook seemed the appropriate choice. Today, adorned with LiveStrong sticker and coffee stain it is nearly filled and will become only the first in what I hope is a very long series of yellow "Mom notebooks." Other yellow books are already waiting in the closet.

The pen? It shares Mom notebook duties with other pens but remains filled at all times with Noodler's Black.

And the bracelet? The one in the photo is the same one I put on my wrist about 30 months ago. I removed it exactly once...for the photograph.

That's a touching story, Bill. I hope things are looking up for your mom.

And yes, it may be winter in Australia but here in Philly, it's a scorching 102 degrees Farenheit [and has been like this for the past few days]. That's what, 35-40 degrees Celsius?

Sometimes I write things (as of 2013

What a story behind the picture. :( I hope your mom is doing well and recovers.
