Hi,

I have just bought this pen.I had been looking for a Waterman Eyedropper for a long time and finally managed to get this one.

I probably paid more for it ($152) than its actual value but it was something I wanted desperately.

Its my first Waterman Eyedropper and also my first vintage pen.As per the description by the seller its near mint with near mint box and leaflet.

Request all views/comments/opinions on it as regard history/quality/price paid/nib...........anything and everything will be most welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

Fateh

That's a very nice Waterman. Given the condition, the nib (looks to be broad) and the relatively large size, I don't think you paid too much of a premium. Keep it out of the UV rays, though. That's a nice dark color on the HR.

Best regards, greg

I don't think you overpaid at all. The color is pretty amazing as is the imprint (s). Greg is right about being careful to store out of the light. If this one was not reblackened, it was extremely well preserved. You have a very nice pen there. Congratulations.

Nice Buy!!! Good job! Price sounds decent to me, you couldn't ask for a cleaner looking 80+ year old pen! Congrats!

Some more of the description as given by the seller............

5 1/4" long capped. In near mint+ condition. With near mint box, instruction sheet and ink advertising insert.

There are traces of ink, so probably lightly used, otherwise I would have called it unused. I see no damage or wear of any kind (some dust shows on pen in some photos) It has a Waterman's Ideal #5 nib, near mint+ also. I think a very scarce model. Last patent date on pen is 1903, and on box is 1908.

Well, if you are worried about what you paid, i'd offer you a $25 profit ;)

#15 POC relatively short run as was renamed #75 which ran much longer. Crisp appearing pen.

What passes for my recollection is that this stands for POCKET, perhaps as in safe for pocket ( it's screw cap will not slip off as with far more prevalent simple $15 with slip cap). The 15 PSF was sister model in which PSF stands for Pocket Self Filler, screw cap but lever not Eyedropepr filler. That pen shortly became the much better known 55.

Name shift in 1917: nib size marked by the variable "x"

1x (slip cap like 12, 15) stayed 1x.

1xPOC (screw cap ED) became 7x (72 etc)

1xS (screw cap, dial-out-nib Safety) became 4x (42 etc)

1xPSF (screw cap lever filler) became 5x (52 etc)

I venture the guess that all those initials on same "number" pen was creating headache, thus the nomenclature change.

Your 15 POS is great!

I hope I can have that same luck you have. But I dust notice that size no. 5 nib is rather too thick for my writing style. I think I need a finer nib.

Would NOS F/M nibs be available anywhere for sale?

A size # 5 nib has to do with the size of the nib, not the size of the point. A #5 would have been available in fine, XF, medium, broad, and stubs.

NOS? We are talking about a pen made from 1910-1918. Vintage #5 NY nibs are certainly available, but I doubt you would find many NOS. Good condition is quite possible. Try - 1001 pens.com - Waterman Nibs. Or Nibs.com, or post a WTB in the marketplace.

For a rundown on what the model numbers mean, see Waterman Numbering System at Vintagepens.com.

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

Its here!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am too overwhelmed by the fact that it was manufactured pre 1918 to fill it up.

I think I need a couple of days before I can do that!!!

  • 5 years later...

I know this is a really old post, but if fatebajwa is still around, he might get a chuckle at what he said when he got his first vintage pen and was so amazed at it's age that he didn't want to put ink in it!

Anyway, I'm on the hunt for a 12 POC on eBay that is a ring top and doesn't look like the cap screws on, which doesn't sound right. Could it be a frankenpen?

Edit: I did get the pen. Now will have to wait to see what it really is.

I actually have a 12POC, and it is a screw on cap. Not a ringtop though since it has a clip. It's missing a nib, but I'm considering putting a later Waterman Ideal #2 heart hole nib in it.
