I'm going to be in Shanghai this summer and was wondering if anyone has experience contacting the Hero pen company? I'd love to get a factory visit.

Hi, (bleep)

Here is the main page of Hero company ,sadly only in Chinese . http://www.herogift.com/page11.htm

If any questions ,probably you could contact with :web@herogift.com

Hopefully, they could answer you in English and meet your wish with certain flexibility.

No affiliation, simply a FP lover in Beijing.

Greetings !

Here's a different site, in English, for Hero:

http://www.hero.com.cn/heroen/index.asp

That site has contact information.

I have no idea which site is the "official" Hero website, though this URL sounds official. Also, according to whois, the admin contact for herogift.com has an email address in the hero.com.cn domain, so probably the former is one of Hero's retail sites, and the latter their corporate site. This is just speculation, though.

I beleive that FPN member bobliangan lives in Shanghai, and knows the factory. He only posts on the weekend.

Hi I've been to the hero factory; dreary and remote. Their wholesale showroom isn't too hard to find though. If you can make your way to the corner of Wuning road and Changshou road, look for a tall, 4 lobed, green glass tower (southeast corner). at least that's where they were 3 years ago..... Duke might be worth a visit too. They're in southern SH, in the Minhang district (near Beiqiao) Remember, Chinese manufacturers are happy to talk to you as long as you're talking about container loads.....

Have fun and good luck

Hi Kurt. I visited the Hero factory showroom back in March. I'm not sure if this is actually a factory store or just a store that specializes in Hero pens. Either way, the prices there seem a little bit cheaper than other places in Shanghai. I posted some pictures, including one of the store's address, here. I don't know how good your Mandarin is but I doubt you'll find anyone who can speak English working there. The lady working the day I was there was very helpful and patient and allowed me to dip as many pens as I wanted. Communication was difficult but we worked it out. I don't think they get too many westerners in this store. People were coming in off the street to watch the foreigner buy some pens.

I found an email link on Duke's website so I asked if they have a showroom. I haven't received a response yet.

Also if you have time while you're in Shanghai, check out Fu Zhou Lu. It's a small street just east of People's Square that has a lot of little stationery shops. Most of them have a selection of pens from all the Chinese manufacturers. Pens in these shops will have prices marked on them but you should be able to 25-40% off that price, depending on your bargaining skills and how badly they want to sell stuff that day.

Fu Zhou Lu street was incredible- I spent 4 hours up and down the different stores buying pens, ink, paper and other things. Amazingly tiny stores with very helpful people. I did purchase some interesting ink that I might share with people at the Central PA pen meeting.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
