You can get a detailed review from me that contains an assessment of this ink over a longer period of time - someday.

 

Or you can get this one now. :)

 

In the scanner light - the Ebony Green may show as ever so slightly bluer. But, as the review says, lighting and personal perception will impact your assessment. For me, it's as close to a "dead ringer" for Penman Emerald as I've ever seen.

 

I've included a close-up of the two - the Penman Emerald is on the top, the Ebony Green is on the bottom below the little separatoer doohicky.

On this monitor I'm using, the PR ink is showing up bluer than it does IRL or on the computer I used to scan the image. IMO, that's an artifact and not a fact. Don't know what y'all will see as all monitors vary.

Even if it's just a touch bluer than Emerald, that's closer than I have seen any ink come. It would be close enough for me, particularly at the very reasonable PR rate.

San Franciscans, BayAreans, Peninsulasians (heh): Flax carries the ebony colors. I saw them there a coupla weeks ago.

Yeah - I bought the full bottle with no clue if it was close just because I figured for 8 bucks, why the heck not?

 

Definitely will fill the bill for me and as I noted in my scrawl, easily would mix with Emerald to stretch your supply. Assuming they don't interact and create a clog problem. I have to check that first so don't take my word for it. I have mixed Sherwood and Penman in the past with no problems other than it just wasn't quite as satisfying because the sherwood changed the color a little. I don't think this stuff would.

How does PR Ebony Green compare with PR Sherwood Green? Based on the scan of Ebony Green, the two inks look pretty similar in color. Can anyone comment on the differences?

It's *much* darker than Sherwood and not quite as blue. It also doesn't have Sherwood's smearing tendency. In fact, both the Ebony Green and Ebony Purple dry fairly quickly (without feathering) by comparison to most heavily saturated inks. I was surprised.

viv once described Penman Emerald as the color of English ivy in full sunlight. I think it was English ivy. Anyway - something rich and beautiful and dark but still shimmering.

 

Yeah, I love Penman Emerald.

I got a sample of this from a kind fellow member and had the chance to test it out today. I put it in a Hero 616 and loaded one of my last couple Emerald cartridges into a Parker Frontier.

 

I think it has to do with the individual pens, but the inks aren't close in these two pens. The Ebony Green makes the Emerald look almost sickly yellow. It's also notably darker. It seems that the 616 is a fire hose, though. By comparison, the Frontier is a fine and lays down a fairly dry line. The 616 actually puts down so much ink that the Ebony Green feathers on the cheap legal pads I use at work. I don't think it would feather if the pen wasn't giving me such a wet line.

 

With all of that said, I love this ink. I love the very dark, wet line the 616 is giving me. I think I'll like it in a dryer nib, too.

Oh, wow, I so don't need any more inks, but that is a beautiful color. And I have so few greens...

Whick is darker, Ebony Green or Avacado? I am looking for the darkest green I can find that is still easily identified as a green.

Ebony is definitely darker than Avacado. Even, in a very wet writer, it will still look green but definitely very dark. I can't say the same for Ebony Purple - uh - I mean, in a wet writer, Ebony Purple barely looks purple. (obviously it doesn't look green. :P)

Have you mixed the Ebony Green with Penman Emerald? Did it maintain the Penman shimmer?

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
