Hey Hari, I can not thank you enough for this post. I visited Apsara and shukla pen mart recently and my experience was nothing less than amazing. One quick question though, I got a 1.1 mm stub on my lamy safari at 1000 rupees, was it a fair deal? The mrp is 1100

2200 for a replacement nib? Wow, lucky me.

hello, I thought you had purchased a full pen with a 1.1 nib for 1100. 2200 is the price of the pen, not just the nib. I have no idea of the nib prices, but any price less than the stated mrp should be fine. enjoy!

Thats what I thought too. The pen comes in for less that 2200 if you ask for a deal on a regular color. Thank you anyway.

I know this is an old topic, but reading through it, and enjoying the pictures of the pen store and the marketplace, was fascinating. I have two vintage pens needing new sacs, and will be installing those sacs soon. Thanks FPN for the education given on how to replace a sac, and clean up an older pen making it look new!

Thanks Helen. I am glad this thread continues to be interesting even after 8 long years. The shops are all still there, some have been re-modelled/face lifted,

I asked the price for a pelikan m1000 in Apsara pen mart, they said it is around 38k, where as the online price of m1000 (william penn and even in flipkart before they went out of stock) is around 62k which is too much. Is the service provided by Apsara pen mart reliable enough to purchase such an expensive pen and what are other alternatives to buy an m1000 in INDIA.

Hair, great post. Thank you for sharing this. Any place in Bandra to look for fountain pens? My Mumbai hosts are meeting me in Bandra to help with some chappal shopping for my wife. I would rather go to the Fort neighborhood to look at some of the great shops in your excellent post, but I am trying to be a good guest...

There is one in Khar......

It's called Maharashtra Stationery and Xerox, on Ambedkar road.

He had about 10-12 Sheaffers, 4 old vintage Camlins, 11 or so Parkers, and 6 Lamy's.

I bought 6 Sheaffers at bulletproof prices, 3 Parkers, and 2 Camlins (one was a 47 and the other was an 18r)

Hopefully he has new stock hahahaha. PS: for 11 pens, I only spent 2700

Also,

Try National Stationery and Xerox in Bandra West, near Guru Nanak Park

Did you find some good ones ? The vintage stock gets continually replenished. People sell pens to them which becomes available to buyers. If in mumbai better to check every week. One can build a good collection this way.

I am hoping to get someone to do a Mumbai pen run.

What sort of brands/models are you likely to find? Is the niche of this market mainly mid priced sheaffer, parker, waterman?

They have a wide variety of customers. So you can get MB WEs, PoAs, other LEs etc. ST Dupont and other luxury well regarded brands as well. Less of Pelikans.

How is the pricing? It is pointless if you can get them cheaper abroad.

Are the sellers selling MB authorized dealers?

the mbs are genuine but grey market. You will get them much lower than discounted retail. You have Mb authorised outlets but you can buy cheaper than them in USA.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
