Pilot Petit 1

It's important to bear in mind, too, that the Petit1 relies on a wick feed, rather than capillary action. In my limited experience, wick-feed pens (like the Petit1 and V-Pen / Varsity) maintain very reliable ink flow - but any ink that relies on particles (nano-pigment, shimmer inks) I expect would not fare well...

It seems like the wick system on the Petit is more suitable for standard wet inks.

You'd want to think so but the contents of those Petit carts don't seem to be typical FP inks :) they feel luxuriously thick & oily.

I have a brown Petit1 from the 1st gen range, which they've discontinued so I can't get brown carts anymore. Have tried various mixes of Pelikan 4001 & Waterman inks to colour match... yep they all write really dry, I gotta add PhotoFlo to get it running like original.

Conversely I've got a BlueBlack from latest range... easy refill, right? Nope... Petit BlBk colour is noticeably different to the BlBk Pilot bottle ink. Which also feels drier than original fill.

Recently picked up some carts for refillable TechVpoint needleballs; also have full range of ParallelPen carts... haha haven't yet tried either in a Petit1 yet to see if their ink is suitable.

Then do you think most of the Noodler's bulletproof and eternal inks will flow well in these pens without clogging the wick?

Argh, I was afraid of that. I just bought a pack of Petit BlBk cartridges thinking it would be a cheap way to try out Pilot's standard BlBk before committing to a bottle. Other than the bottled ink being drier, how are they different?

I got this helpful reply from Ryan at JetPens regarding the Blue-Black in Petit cartridges:

"In our experience, the Petit blue black ink is similar to but noticeably darker than the standard Pilot Blue Black ink. They have similar water resistance, but the Petit blue black can smear a bit more since it's more saturated."

I used a blunt syringe to refill a Petit cartridge with Dr. Ph. Martin's Ocean Edge Blue (a nano-pigment ink), and it's been working with no issues at all for about a month now. I really do love my Petit1 -- it's one of my favorite pens, period. Pilot really manages to put some amazing nibs on their inexpensive pens.

Ain't that the truth? I use my 78g's and Plumix's (or at least their nibs) more than my pens that cost five or more times as much.

I was so excited to find this pen in a local shop today for only $3.95. I can barely believe it's really so affordable. I'm giving it to my 2nd grader to practice with and will buy myself another. I'd never seen a wick before and my eyes got so wide watching the ink travel up it. Very cool!

My blue-black Petit1 finally arrived and it's great.

When I first ran the dry nib across paper I got a ton of feedback and thought, "oh no! I got one of the scratchy ones." However, once I inserted the cartridge and got ink to the nib, the nib ran quite smoothly on paper.

The ink for these pens is interesting, it seems thick and slick, almost oily. It's extremely saturated and water resistant. After it had dried I ran the paper under the tap until it was completely soaked through, but the ink just faded to a strong blue without any smearing or halos. I wish they would sell bottles of the petit ink!

The pen is a little chubby but fits snugly in my passport-sized traveler's notebook. This pen is going to get a lot of use.

They do tend to worm their way into the rotation and then stay there, don't they?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
