I've got a new Tibaldi Modello 60 - but it won't draw ink. Any suggestions of someone who can repair it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

If the usual remedies (e.g., flushing with water or solution of water and diluter ammonia or mild detergent, soaking the nib, etc.) fail, I would try contacting Lex Villines for help. He is a respected member of the fountain pen community and THE person for repairs on Tibaldi pens. You can reach him via email at lexvil@sbcglobal.net.

Or, if you are of the handy variety, you could unscrew the nib, and then pull out the converter-ish assembly. You can then inspect the clear outer tube for cracks and check if there is anything amiss with the piston. Then apply silicone grease to the piston (use toothpick), do not use too much or it'll clog up the ink feed hole. And apply something to the face of the ring which the nib screws against. Also coat the threads of the nib with silicone. Screw the whole thing together et vwalah! Be very careful, the outer tube seems very fragile and the thread the nib uses looks very shallow, ie. fragile as well.

I am thinking of designing whole new innards for this pen, done right this time. Try searching this forum, there is a photo report of the disassembly process somewhere.

Edit: You will need to dip the front of the section into the ink, mine will not properly fill if you don't.

Best regards,

Jarno.

Hi All,

a related problem - and if I can't cure it, I'll contact Lex as previously suggested - but I thought this might be of interest/relevance to other Tibaldi users ...

I've just received an ivory-blue Modello 60 in the post today.

I was chuffed (Northern English word) with the celluoid which is actually better than I thought it would be from the photos I had previously seen but there's a problem with the ink flow.

I have given the nib and feed section a thorough cleaning out but I can't get a consistent flow which is really annoying.

However, if I open up the piston knob slightly - the flow seems to be okay.

any ideas/suggestions?

if necessary I'll send it off to Vecchietti's in Bologna - they repaired a couple of OMAS for me previously ... but it would be nice to avoid the hassle!

very best,

Paul.
