Lamy 2000, F

Thanks for your review of the Lamy 2000, one of my favorite pens. To me, it really is a classic design. I think of it as the true successor to the Parker 51. The clips rarely bother me. I tend to hold my pens high and I typically hold the 2000 higher than the clips. I agree that the ink view window should be larger, but find it serviceable. The spring-loaded pocket clip is well made and I trust the 2000 to be well-behaved in a shirt pocket. The nibs do run a little wide for my tastes. I have an extra fine nib and wish it were a little finer. It seems like a western fine to me. I'm very happy with this great writer, a minimalist interpretation of the fountain pen.

FPN sure does cost alot. OK, I surrender. I just ordered the Lamy 2000. It can keep my Safaris, Joy, Vista, & Studio company. Lamy is just a great company IMHO. Great review, thank you for following up 3 months later as well.

Good review! I held off a long time getting one of these and when I did, I wasn't fully satisfied with it. I hate to send things back to mfgs for repair/tuning so it sat for several months. I went to a pen show 3 weeks ago and brought it with me. A trader came by and said he would be interested in making a trade for it. I caught up with him later and traded even for a Visconti Kaleido Voyager! I was one happy puppy with that deal. Later a fellow came by looking at my pens and wanted one of the Parker 51s I had for sale. I had $100 on it but would probably gone less. He had a 2000 in his pocket and after struggling a while about spending another $100, I asked if he wanted to trade the 2000 for the 51. So I came home with a 2000 and it has been full of ink and in use ever since. Love it!!

I love your story, and I laughed out loud! Thanks!

BTW, I have two L2K fountain pens and like them a lot. The relationship between the brushed steel and Makrolon "speaks to me." I think the L2K is functional and art, but others may not agree. Another thing about the L2K is how the texture and tone of the pen changes, with use, over time and gains a kind of "patina." My old, trusty Leica M4 in black has revealed brass, over time, and that kind of change--like the L2K "patina," adds coolosity.

Cheers, Robert Alan

I know that pens can vary but I had a Sailor 1911m that came nowhere close to the Lamy 2000. The Sailor felt very average if not cheap and the nib was scratchy. The Lamy 2000 is the best pen pound for found that you can get.
