another bexley submariner grand

just received this beaut from dennis of parkville pen. so excited, i had to take pictures before inking up. please enjoy.

the red color, as dennis describes it, is more like a caramel. i liken it to a nice bourbon - think wild turkey 101 or rare breed. the pen is posing w/a scotch however (weather's too cold to drink bourbon).

the point is a medium. funny, i also received the free worldlux catalog today (which contains many gorgeous pics by bill r. btw) and the celluloid looks to be the same terra di siena red celluloid used on the stipula brunelleschi. looks also similar to the material used on the tibaldi modello 50/60. if so, that makes this pen a relative bargain at $350.

this is my third bex sub grand. this model is reliable, comfortable, and just the right size. now i need just the gray and blue celluloid to complete the bexley sub grand celluloid trinity. and richard's blue pearl and aspen are calling to me... will this never end? thanks for looking.

Be assured this is exactly the same celluloid of which my Stipula Brunelleschi 'Terra die Siena' LE is made of! It is best described as of terracotta and light green colour.

Whoever makes that celluloid, sells to both compnies. :blink:

Ok. Stipula made only 351 pens of it last year, so not enough business for one mix. And both have Bock nibs, obviously.

 

Anyway, enjoy!

 

Adition: I also didn't pay full Stipula price: only $300 from the Canadian ebay seller 'stbpens'.

Now here is a pic of my 2004 Stipula Brunelleschi Terra die Siena, accompanied on the left by Visconti Moonlight Voyager in rose gold and by 1995 OMAS 'The Cinema' on the right.

 

Sorry for the suboptimal pic, my digicam does not allow manual settings to widen the deptht of field ...

Actually, that rose gold is plating sterling silver ( -> vermeil), so the Visconti has some heft and the 18K nib is also rose gold (plated?). The black plastic is Lucite/Plexiglas. The nice thing about this pen is, that it comes with a rose gold vermeil Travelling Ink Well as a set. The ink well can be used for other pens, too.

 

Why the Omas 'Cinema'? I wanted an Omas pen. I wanted some celluloid pen. I wanted a good EF nib. I found it NIB on ebay last year, and beeing the only bidder, it cost me 199 Euros - the cheapest way to meet all three conditions.

 

Of course, I like the cinema, too

But seriously, I am really glad you got the Bexley w/stub nib because sometimes a pen will come up for sale and then it might be months/years before you see the same kind come up for sale again...I hope you enjoy your new pen (and yes, it is a tough month for selling pens--lots of pre-Christmas sales...)
