I thought that the good people of FPN are the only ones in the world who might appreciate hearing about the bizarre dream that I had last night. I was in a pen shop, and I asked if they had any Pelikans in stock. 'Yes, sir', I was told. 'We have the brand new Pelikan M10000'. This monstrous object was hauled up from underneath the counter, and it was the size of a very large aerosol can. 'Some people just thought that the M1000 was too small', I was told. It came with three choices of nib: 'BBBBB', 'BBBBBB', and 'BBBBBBB'. Even better, it also came with a special harness that strapped around your neck and held the pen upright in the writing position. 'Can I try it out?', I asked. 'Yes, but please use two hands', came the reply.

You must be very deep into fountain pens, indeed (though I must admit I have difficulty believing that you haven’t made it up... It’s simply too hilarious to be true!). :)

How was it? Smooth? Wet? How about the Sweet spot? How did you fill it? Pour a few bottles of ink into a fish tank and fill it from there? :P

Great dream. The pen sounds like a harpoon.

 

On a moderately serious note, are you looking for a larger pen? Danitrio is making some affordable raw ebonite pens in nice large sizes - the "Takumi" is the size of a MontyB 149; the "Densho" is longer than a 149; and the "Mikado" just might come as close to fulfilling your dream of an M10000 as you might come in the real world. Kevin, aka "winedoc" posted this information on Pentrace a few days ago - if I am permitted to make that reference here.

 

I got a "Densho" raw ebonite with a Dani "stub" nib that I am delighted with. The stub writes like a M italic. It has a lovely big barrel with a Mae West-style bulge in the middle that is a hair longer and wider than an M1000. I have only seen pictures of the "Mikado" size. You would not need a strap to hold it, nor would it require both hands to use, but it just might serve as a harpoon in a pinch.

Kees - I wish that I could say that I'd made it up, but I'm afraid that it really was that stupid! I'd been remembering earlier that night, having posted in another thread here about Gilbertson Clybourn in Chicago, how nice it was to play around with pens in that shop a few weeks ago (a Pelikan among them), but I still don't know why my unconscious decided to come up with the dream.

 

Dillon - I'm afraid that I didn't get to try it out, as I woke up laughing not long after the harness was shown to me. It would surely have used a bottle of ink per line of writing, so a fish tank would probably have been in order.

 

Frank - Thanks for the tip. I'm afraid, though, that even the 'humble' M1000 is too big for me. I love the look of it, but my hand just isn't big or strong enough to write with it. I get exhausted after a few sentences with a Cross Townsend, in fact. The M200 works perfectly for me at present, but I think that a few months in a boot camp might allow me to graduate to a 600.

On a similar note, Having purchased a MB149 many years ago I produced it from my pocket in a meeting to a comment from my old boss asking me "where do you put the batteries?"

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
