Should I go to Mustafa or Bras Basah (sp?) to buy my pen? And are the shops at Bras Basah open on Sunday?

Definitely depends on what pen you're hoping to buy. Mustafa may not have every pen you want, but they do have good prices. No trying FPs though. If you want a Safari, I would definitely recommend Mustafa, as you'll save more than $10.

Yes, Mustafa sells Lamy Safari and Vista, but they don't have Extra Fine nib. I went there twice, but still no luck.

If you go to Bras Basah, check out the watch & pen shop behind Fook Hing.

They have NOS and old pens on clearance.

Saw Pelikan M250 selling for $99 there before.

Ok thanks! But how do I know if the pen has a fine nib? And what ink should I use?

The nib will be marked accordingly(F,M etc.) If you're going to Mustafa, I will suggest you go to the fourth floor stationery department for your pens and ink. Less crowded, and the Safaris are in the Lamy rack on the counter. As for ink, I'll suggest something that'll dry quickly. Parker Quink Black is a nice dark black that dries quickly. Alternatively, you could try Pelikan. Mustafa carries these two in bottles, as well as Lamy. If you want a waterproof ink, there's Mont Blanc Blue-Black, or Noodler's Bulletproof inks.

Have fun shopping!

Just an update; Mustafa has the Tank pens in F once again. :)

Hi guys, a newbie here and my new found hobby got the better of me - I just went down to Mustafa to buy the following:

1 x LAMY Safari Black

5 x Hero 336

1 x Pilot ED Tank

1 x Pilot Birdie

I thought the tank pens are only in medium nib?

Sheaffer Prelude

LAMY Safari Charcoal

Vintage Parker Vacuumatic Gold Pearl Celluloid

Hero 336 (Black, Burgundy, Green)

Pilot Tank (Teal eyedropper)

Pilot Superior (Teal Squeezer)

Pilot Birdie (White/Red)

The Tank pens are available in both Fine and Medium, although the fines were out of stock for quite some time. The Birdie is only available in medium. There should be a sticker on the pen and the nib is marked. The pen counter in Serangoon Plaza (facing the road) definitely has fines available, but I can't speak for the other counters.

Hi All!

My first post here after having been introduced to the world of fountain pens by a girl I love with all my heart, but will never be able to be with.

In a way, introducing me to fountain pens seemed to be the most natural thing to do as we all write every now and then, and having a common hobby between us will enable us to remember each other even if we are thousand of miles away.

Upon first knowing of fountain pens, I did some little research and promptly got myself a Hero 336 as well as a Parker Vector from Mustafa, to "test" how I will like using fountain pens. I fell in love with it, and had been using the Parker Vector for a number of days.

My girl, whom is returning back to her own country after her work contract expires soon, bought me a Pelikan M215 which I absolutely loved to bits. In a way, this pen will forever remind me of her long after the day when I can no longer meet her.

Spotted a few Stypens in a stationery store at Peace Centre (along Selegie Road), going for $8. Those were the colourful student type commonly seen on ebay, not the retractable Stypen UP.

I know its not a fountain pen, but anyone know where to get a Vanishing Point H1005 mechanical pencil in Singapore? It apparently was discontinued last year, and the places that still sell it online only ship within America or in bulk. Or maybe even a suggestion for a good stationery store with a nice pencil selection would be great.

I believe I've seen it on ebay. Most sellers are willing to ship to Singapore. Have you tried asking? :)

Sorry, but I've not seen it sold locally. You could try Popular at Bras Basah or one of the pen shops there but I'm not hopeful. Perhaps someone else will know.

Thanks. There is one seller on ebay, but the shipping costs almost as much as the pencil. :o

To clarify, I'm not looking for the one to match the FP(which ujuku sells), but a Pilot drafting pencil that is called the Vanishing Point due to the double-action retractable tip, which was discontinued last year.

I see. I mistook it for the FP counterpart. :) Perhaps you can ask ANBC whether they can order for you from Japan, or put up a WTB on this forum?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
