I've had a few of them, and I sold most of them.

I can't stand that the plastic (albeit refillable) Pilot G-2 .07 writes better than most major-brand rollerballs (I'm looking at you and pointing, Mont Blanc.) Sigh.

[edit]

Er... not that I own any of the Pilot G-2s. That's the pen I find lying around at work.

Please don't kick me out.

All of my Skylines. I know they are supposed to be nice but to me they are amoung the ugliest vintage pens I have. Then there is the Rotring Core. It writes fine but talk about an ugly, ungainly pen.

Don't worry. I agree that the G-2 is an ugly pen, but Pilot makes very nice gel/rollerball cartridges. I like the Pilot Dr. Grip gel pens which use the same ink but look much better. Not that I ever use them

I have nothing terribly extreme in either direction.

My Esterbrook is a terrific writer. And it looks nice, but doesn't really grab me, so it rarely gets used.

I have a few Rotring ArtPen Millennium Editions that I bought because they look nice, but they're really no better than the regular ol' ArtPen. They have a bit more weight in the hand which I like, but the nibs, while prettier, are no better than the non-LE versions.

Who are the pen shops in your neighborhood? Find out or tell us where they are, at http://penshops.info/

I'll suggest a pen that fits the "ugly as all get out, but writes like a dream" bill and then run for cover... I fully expect to be flamed....

The Parker "51"... writes like a dream but (at least in my eyes) is barely passable as far as design at best....

I do love the "51"s for their writing ability, but dang I wish they were prettier.

Edit to say: all that smack being typed, it must be said I own a few "51"s and they'll be the last FPs I ever consider selling.

I'm with you! I really dislike the looks of the P51 and the P21. Ah, but they are hell for strong and they write well and can digest almost any ink you can put in them. I wouldn't sell the ones I own, anymore than I would sell my pipe wrenches. P51, the pipe wrench among pens.

I have one of those transparent Sheaffer school pens from the 60's that takes only cartriges with the silver cap. It writes wonderful, but it looks so ugly and cheap. I also have this old Parkette which is all scratched up, has a small crack in the cap, loose cap brands and lever and brassing all over the clip, but it has a wonderful broad gold nib with a bit of flex.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

The Pilot Vanishing Point. This is a really good and dependable writer but it sucks in the looks department.

Will I get rid of it? No one's gonna adopt any of my babies (ugly or otherwise)

My favourite pens:

Pelikan M200 Demo / translucent red / medium nibstroke

Lamy 2000 / black / oblique medium nibstroke

Pilot Vanishing Point / yellow / medium nibstroke

Really? I quite like the design.

The one I can't warm to (I've tried) is the classic Pelikan design.

No idea why I've bought five of them -- I was trying very hard. I think I'll stick to the Piccadilly Circus.

I have examples on both issues.

A Paper-Mate flighter that is by far, the best writer ever, but thin and ugly as no other. Is in my daily rotation, just love how it writes, and its web M nib on the broad side.

Unfortunatedly many of my modern Fps are problematic one way or the other. I try to fix them, send them to the technical service, or work on them, but still....

Same with me. The 51 looks boring but works perfectly reliable. I have several and like to write with them.

Lamy 27 is the same: wonderful writer but not the most inspiring design either.

But I do like using them in meetings with some users of "look at my pen!"-pens :D

Pelikan Steno writes very well but looks very boring. Also Parker Jotter Special Black writes quite well, but it looks as boring as Pelikan Steno. Parker Jotter Stainless Steel has better looks, but equal writing quality with Parker Jotter Special Black. It has been reviewed in this forum.

Bic Select Turn&Up -pens have nice looks, but their nibs become dry very easily. Mexx Lace is very beautiful, but it has some starting problems.

The Cross Metropolis that my dad gave me.

It's a nice writer. Good and smooth. But I hate the design. I washed it out and put it away in it's box.

My Campo Marzio Minny that I bought in France.

Nice, simple design, but I can't stand writing with it. At least, not anymore. The nib is just too rough and scratchy these days. It was my one and only daily writer since 2003 until 2006. It was used to write LITERALLY EVERYTHING and it's been very battered and worn. It requires a serious nib-centric overhaul before I can use it again. It too, has been washed and put away.

I have two good everyday writers - start every time - put down a nice a line - I use them quite a bit which says something . . . . . . . .

but they are both infamous rOTRING Cores. I guess one nice thing about them is they always attract attention.

So I wasn't alone in thinking that the Skyline looked kind of....well... "interesting"

The one I used to have wrote very well though

I had a Rotring Initial with a stub ground by the previous owner. It wrote beautifully, but neither the looks nor the feel ever suited me that well. I ended up selling it, but I debated for quite a while.

Solution: don't carry it. But it writes so well I can't bear to part with it.
