Ratnamson Supreme

Would it make sense to put together a group buy? I'd like to do the customer process as outlined in the review...

I will definitely purchase one of these pens if there is a group buy.

Great review and great piece of craftsmanship. I live in Pakistan and will try to get one too. That's for sure.

This is probably the right answer. I just pm'd with a seller on FPN, and the quote with 14k nib is $230.

Anyone know where it is possible to order this pen fropm?

Abhik mentioned an FPN member from Mumbai,India, Mr.Vikram Ruperelia, who has offered to send Ratnam pens from India... but I could not find his FPN name.

If anyone has got clues, that would be most welcome.

I have three different models of the Ratnamson Supreme in the Classifieds section.

regards

  • 4 years later...

Now, i find the back story amazing and without any second thought ordered some pens from Ratnam Pen Works. And now i come across Ratnamson or Ratnam Ballpen Works. And i know they share the same heritage and probably brothers going their own way.

Now, can someone throw some light on this two pen companies? And the million dollar question, which model did Gandhiji used? I would give anything to own the same as used by Gandhiji.

Has anyone used their 14kt gold nibs? If so, what was your experience? This has certainly caught my attention, and seems like a wonderful brand to next try out :)

So, is the nib in the review a handmade, gold nib, or steel? Is it large enough to fit the size of the pen? How does it compare in size to a standard #6 nib and a MB149 sized #8 nib?

I emailed and the price quotes are quite high actually. The shipping cost is nominal but the cost of the pens with a gold nib are in the hundreds or couple hundreds.

Supreme pen with 14ct gold nib Rs 16000/-.
No 302 big size pen with 14ct gold nib Rs 8000/-
by speed post shipping charges Rs 1500/-
Total 25500/-
I am very interested in picking up the pen but at that price point, I feel like I would need to pickup one with a steel nib before trying the more expensive one. Also I remember reading a blog a few days ago where the cost of a steel 302 being a less than twenty dollars. Perhaps there is some foreigner cost inflation going on or perhaps the cost of gold nibs have gone up significantly

Considering that they make their own gold nibs (if I am not mistaken), they may need to obtain their gold. And I do know that the cost of gold per oz has not really dropped in the past few years, and so is quite expensive right now.

Last I heard, they did not ship outside of India? So I cannot comment on that, but I am likely just as interested as you.

I have not emailed them myself yet, but I was going to sit and save up for a bit (as I would likely want to order a small number of pens, if I'm going to be paying for shipping anyway).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
