The scan couldn't capture the actual contrast between the "butterscotch" mix and the "caramel" mix. The "caramel" is just a little more brownish than shows. Interestingly, the greenish tinge on my actual paper where I used the dip pen to make a large line beneath the title, disappeared with the scan! I used a cotton swab on both sides of that wide line to show the color better. Scan was at 300 DPI with minor adjustment made. With the larger pen, the "butterscotch" mix looks like a waterproof Apache Sunset. The 2 other colors used in the mixes were both waterproof, also. These were Naval Orange and Eternal Brown.

Aughhhhhh!!! My eyes!!!!!!! B) I believe you could use a color like that for highlighting. Wonder what you might come up with if you mix in a little Waterman red?

David, I wanted to use all waterproof colors and Waterman Red isn't one. :)

I believe I used this color in a snail that's on its way to you.

Wowowowowow! I am LOVING those mixes! I really like Apache Sunset, but I shy away from using it as much as I would like to, because it's nowhere near waterproof. Your scans have come across looking very Apache Sunset. I can't tell which one I like more. And they're waterproof?? Result!!

 

Ok, I need to head over to the recipe zone to see how you created these, on account of I have got try them.

All waterproof, I understand it well. Did I ever tell ya 'bout the checkbook register I spilled my coffee into when I was on a PR Orange Crush kick? Sad story! :)

 

Hey, I'm reading that snail now, just got home from school and trying to relax with a snack before hitting the homework.

 

Somehow you manage to make even the grey ink along the side of the page look good. Must be because its in your superb handwriting. Even the yellow is quite legible and much more readible than I would have thought. It appears to be darker than that bottle of kings gold I have that is so lightly colored as to be virtually unreadable. Still good for mixing however.

 

Darn, so many nifty inks to sample.

You might want to be careful mixing those two. When I mixed Waterman's Florida Blue with Noodler's Gulf Stream Blue it looked very nice but after a while they reacted and clogged the pen. I had to use ammonia to get the precipitate out. Apparently some of the waterproof inks are sensitive to Ph levels.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

Thanks, everyone...BTW, the Goldfinch mixes are still in my Esterbrook w/9450 nib and my NoNonsense for 3 weeks now since the review and there is no sign of any clogging or drying in the nibs. Both mixes are flowing freely. :)

I envy you your handwriting!

 

The mixes remind me of the Herbin Ambre de Birmanie I've got in cartridges.

 

About the Goldfinch unmixed: how successful do you think it would be as a highlighting ink? I don't think Noodler's Firefly is waterproof, is it?

Ryan,

 

Sorry I didn't see your question before now. Sure, you can use Goldfinch as a highlighter. You're correct, Firefly isn't waterproof.

 

Both inks will bleed through to the other side on thin, cheap paper but work great on paper that's over 20 lb.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
