What is a binde? Oh, nm. It's the tube that makes up the "body" of the pen.

At first I went Huh?

 

But then I figured out what a binde was... Now I know how to get a Pelikan I love the looks of. I'm just afraid to find out about the cost.

How do you remove the bindes on the stock Pelikans?

The sword is mightier than the pen. However, swords are now obsolete whereas pens are not.

more precisely it's the pretty sleeve that goes over the body of the pen.

 

in answer to Pfhorrest: I believe the original has to be cut significantly (lengthwise?) in order to remove it - something you don't want to do unless 1. you know what you're doing and 2. you know you really want to. Anyone feel free to correct me.

Thanks ArchiMark, I'll remember that for the rest of my life, especially every time I pick up my Pelikan, which is like, all the time!

 

It was almost as bad as doing a ebay search for micro mesh, which was graphic and NSFW. lticaptd.gif

Scott Meyer at Only One Creations is also doing bindes for Pelikans. He recently did a white casein binde on my Pelikan 400 at a very reasonable ccost and fast turnaround.

You might want to contact my American Art Plastics partner, Mark Hoover. He hasn't been advertising it, but he's made bindes from both vintage celluloid and our newly-made materials, and they are very well made indeed.

The black Pelikan 100 and 100N have bindes as well. But these are much more delicate and brittle than the green ones. Be careful, they only should be removed if it is absolutely necessary.

 

The black striped Pelikan 400, 400NN and 300 do also have bindes. But they can not be removed (as far as I know...).

 

The modern black Pelikan don't have bindes. These pens are solid constructions.

Beautiful looking things...unfortunately I'd not be able to smuggle them into Germany by mail...I'd have to carry.

 

Some one sent his Pelikan to the states for a bit of nib work and the German customs sent it to Pelikan to make sure it was not counterfeit. It wasn't so he got his pen back some tow weeks later.

 

With a new binde Pelikan would then destroy your modification as a counterfeit.

 

 

 

God one look as some of those binde made me want to buy 12 200's and have some grand looking pens.

 

Of course Pelikan reacted and fast....why spend money on LE's when some guy can make your pen into one of exactly your taste...and reasonable.

The Reality Show is a riveting result of 23% being illiterate, and 60% reading at a 6th grade or lower level.

      Banker's bonuses caused all the inch problems, Metric cures.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
