Noodlers Baystate Blue

As is evident from the review, I love this vivid ink, and hope that Noodlers comes out with more standout colors like this one.

The only slight negatives (in my opinion) are that Baystate blue is a little too quick drying as there is just the slightest bit of feathering where the ink pools. In addition, Nathan Tardiff has written that the ink color is subject to change under strong UV light.

Care should be taken as this ink has been known to stain some plastics (specifically a yellow Lamy Safari). This ink is vulnerable to a 25% bleach solution. For what it's worth, a quick test of dipping a white Bic ballpoint pen in the ink did cause staining on the plastic, but it cleaned up nicely with the bleach solution. There are many different plastics though, so I would suggest keeping the pen exterior away from the ink.

Baystate blue is marketed as being waterproof.

Now I know what it reminds me of:

The old Rotring Blue (maybe it was called "Royal Blue" but I'm not sure). The one that came in a small, low cylindrical bottle. It also wrote violet and dried blue...

I want about a dozen bottles of that stuff...

Thanks for the great review, Stephen. I just received my BB (Baystate Blue) today. I also had a VP cursive italic awaiting. It writes just as you said...a smooth, wet, bright blue. I, too, look forward to more bright colors from Noodlers. To those who are waiting on their BB...it will be worth it :bunny01:

I really like the hue of this blue.

I don't use supersaturated inks much, how long does this one take to clean out of the pen? Some of the PR inks I've tried literally take hours to flush from a pen... Where the Herbin's I usually use are flushed in minutes.

Nice review. The ink seems to have some violet or purple in it. I am not sure. It is a very nice color.

But does not seem to be true blue.

Am I the only one who see this. If so, maybe it is my screen. Or then again my eyes

Hey stephen, very nice, how does it compare to American blue? it seems brighter on the scan, sort of the colour it goes down wet?

Check this comparison of BSB and DC Supershow Blue. I understand American Blue to be pretty similar to DC:

American Blue in my pens is substantially darker than these scans of BSB; and very close to the comparison linked (and inked!) above.

I think I'm going to go for a bottle of this. It looks fun. I'd still love to hear about how easy (or not!) it is to flush from the pen... I'm pretty spoiled with the Herbin's. The PR inks I have take a lot of cleaning, and I tend not to use them much because of it.

I love this shade of blue if the scans are accurate.

I think the scan is pretty accurate. ;)

I don't have any PR American Blue, but I do have Lake Placid Blue. Alongside Baystate blue, the Lake Placid blue looks like a blue-black (the contrast is quite vivid).

Agh! I can't resist the blue! I've seen tons of complaints about this ink's behavior (particularly staining) but I just can't stop myself from wanting this ink.

Thanks for the review! It convinced me that I need to add this to my collection.
