Well, I've really been looking at these two pens. I can get the parker a little cheaper, but I was wondering which one writes better.

Thanks :)

I much prefer the Lamy 2000, both for writing quality and ink capacity. It is a no-nonsense writers whose nib is, at its best, is both smooth and slightly flexible, imparting some character to your writing.

The Parker 75 has a better grip (size and shape) and a more robust feel (probably a weight thing).

I have both and prefer the 75.

My 2000 is super smooth but runs dry and skips at times.

Hi Newbie,

You're spot on, it is absolutely personal preference. Both are great pens, in my experience similar weights (when the 2000 is full), similar quality and similar sizes. But neither is perfect. For me the 2000s smooth shape with hooded nib is not quite as comfortable as an exposed nib with a more cylindrical section as per the 75. The 75 has the added advantage of the adjustable nib and scolloped section, but for me it is just a little too thin to be comfortable for long periods.

If you really can't choose on looks alone (and lets face it they are so different, you really should have a favourite!) then you either have to buy both, or try both out before handing over the cash! Mind you, I would always recommend trying before you buy anyway.

Good Luck!

The 2000 is a current production pen, the 75 is a (recent) vintage pen. It is notable for its sturdiness, workmanship, reliability. The 75 has far more choices of material, finish, nibs, etc. I would characterize it as far more elegant and "classy."

One isn't necessarily better than the other. They are both, to the hobbyist, different concepts of pens.

As far as which writes better, it will have far more to do with how the pen nib is adjusted than the native "ability" of the pen.

Thanks for the reply!

Sadly, I don't have a nearby pen shop where I live, and I'm really going to use the pen a lot. So far, I think the Lamy 2k is the pen for me. I have a safari, and love how it writes, and I have not ever tried a Parker pen. Maybe I will end up buying both, but for now, I think I'm going to get the Lamy. :)

The Parker 75 and the Lamy 2000 were both designed in the 1960s and are really well designed modern pens. If it were my cash, the 75 would win by a hair. Not quite so bauhaus in design.

The Parker 75 is a classy pen.I have a very soft spot to pens I concider classy like the MB 149 and the Parker 75.

These are 2 pens that are so different I cant really see any way to truly compare betweeen the two.

The 2000 is a piston filler semi hooded still in production pen that has a modern lok to it.

The 75 has a timeless design it has a swivel nib (in some models) a unique grip and is a C/C.

I would hands down choose the 75 but to be honest for you I think the Lamy 2000 is more sutable.

Respect to all

The 2000 is too thin for me, the 75 fits my hand better.

Just check which one you feel more comfrtable with

both are excellent pens

Well, since the Lamy was designed in (from the top of my head) 1966, and is still in production and looking modern, I guess it is the winner with respect to timeless design.

My vote would go to the Lamy 2000 (if I had to choose one pen only), but actually you might want to have both of them :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
