I've never considered myself to be a pen collector before although I do have a few that I've accumulated over the years.

This is the first pen that I've actually ordered based on a review! so maybe now I am a collector?

I'm not sure which I'll like more however, the pen or the box, but I'm looking forward to receiving them.

regards, Bill

First of all, thanks a lot for the great review! Yes, some of these Chinese pens are great value for money. I bought two Baoer fountain pens, each costing Rs. 140 (that's about 3 USD) and they write beautifully. And what's more they look great. I should write a review of these pens sometime.

That'd be great. The new pens coming in from India & the Far East are not as frequently reviewed as they deserve. Many are adequate, some are outstanding & it's difficult to find the really good ones unless they are reviewed.

I ordered this pen on Sunday, 23rd and it arrived today!!

I wasn't expecting it for another week or more.

Doesn't get better than that for prompt delivery and service.

The pen does look really very good, good weight and quite a quality finish considering the silly price, and the box is well, OK.

Haven't tried the pen yet but I don't think I'll be too disappointed.

I am impressed with the service however and no doubt will try 'comeon1788' for more of his bargain pens.

regards, Bill

This thread, along with various other positive comments in other forums, motivated me to get one of these "Long March" FP's. Mine arrived yesterday. It is in fact very nicely packaged and presented, and it is a handsome pen. My converter looks as if it might last about two weeks, but that is the only issue I can see. I am going to wait until after Christmas to ink it.

One note of humor. The outside box for this pen is orange, just about the same color as the peanut butter cookies sold by the girl scouts. I actually reached for the box when I had a case of munchies thinking it was cookies.

:headsmack: its sad that people dont realize that jinhao is one of the best companies available, what shocked me the most was the quality compared to cost! so well made for such a small price i got my jinhao 250 for a buck and it beats so many other fountain pens of mine!!!!!!!!!!

i've been motivated to buy one from ebay...but can anyone tell me...are chinese pens like Japanese pens, where the medium nib writes more like a fine european?

thanks

Most Chinese pens are between a medium and Fine line, but a few of the Jinhao pens run close to Medium. I am not sure on this model, as there are about 60 billion variants on it, but most will run in between. By all means go for it, these Jinhao's are fantastic writers!

Most of the Jinhao Commemorative pens are a full medium, but the Jinhao Long March is a bit narrower, more towards the medium fine end of things.

One thing I really like about their Commemorative pens is that the nib tip is not fully rounded, but appears to be more of a rounded cube. Consequently, they write a bit like a stub nib, tending to be narrower on horizontal strokes than vertical, but the effect is more subtle than with a true italic or stub nib.

The Jinhao X-450s, OTOH, have a fully rounded nib tip.

Hello Greencobra!

I'll join in and praise your review. Such a lovely wooden box! I bought my Duke recently from the same dealer and was impressed by the service level. I agree with your statement: "The question on my mind is why can't the big boys get their pens writing like this?" Thanks for your excellent review!

I love JINHAO & BAOER pens they are the same company, I own 20 Jinhao's and 6 Baoer's and cant get enough of them they just write so superbly everytime you take the cap off, you have got to shop around but I find that ebay seller gotoschool888 have given me fabulous service everytime I have wanted to buy a Jinhao or Baoer so I am going to stick with them. I would advise anyone who wants a good fountain pen to get some of these especially at these prices. Bryan

Im glad to see you like Jinhao's and Baoer's too! I am a huge fan of these pens they beat even the most expensive pens, amazingly beautiful! Jinhao is THE BEST everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I don't know how they do it. Smooth nibs, fabulous designs. For the price of my first Waterman, I've bought 7 Jinhaos, all of which work well and look awesome. They make awesome gifts too and I've always wanted to give fountain pens away as gifts. The commemorative editions such as the Zhuge Liang, Taizong and Long March pens, can be bought for about 30-40 US (including shipping) on Ebay and they come in such nice boxes. It makes me want to snap them up all haha :).

I'm also impressed by the really inexpensive ones that can be bought for $7 US. Maybe they're even cheaper in China...

Either way, it makes me think twice about buying European fountain pens :eureka:
