Thanks for your very well done review. Here is my very short, subjective review of the Namiki Vanishing Point-I LOVE THIS PEN! I have used the same one for over ten years and still love picking it up to write. I have logged more time with this pen than any other in my collection.

I love my Blue Carbonesque -- it's my everyday fountain pen. I also have an orange one.

If they did the carbonesque finish in more colors, I'd go for it, but it seems like a let down to get the green and/or red in the regular finish now that I've been spoiled by the texture on the carbonesque. The raden is pretty, but I'm not sure it's pretty enough to overcome my dislike of black pens. :)

Yes the VP is a great pen, every time I use it I am impressed, such a great pen for such a little cost, the only issues I have are 1) does not hold much ink (a refillable cart helps), 2) monotone gold nibs, I woulld like a siver coloured nib to match the furniture and 3) clip-not the position but the shape/construction, if the clip was more Lamy 2000 I would be in heaven.

Other than that I completely happy!

Just as a note: I bought my VP in the UK, and it does have a rhodium plated gold nib.

On a trip to the US, I bought an additional F nib, and I found out that in the US there are indeed only gold nibs. A pity, because the rhodium nib is MUCH better looking!

Latest additions: Aurora Dante Inferno (B), Graf Von Faber Castell Classic Wood Ebony (OM), La Couronne Du Comte Willem van Oranje (M), Montblanc Writers Edition Cervantes (M), Aurora Optima Cento Riflessi Limited Edition (B)

Thanks for the close-up of the Raden, alvarez!

I think I would very much like that finish on a pen... or a mug... or a car.... <img src="https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/drool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="drool.gif" />

Hmm...I was a little disappointed when seeing the Raden pen - I might have to look again, but I had expected more (considering the buzz about that pen).

Well, true - especially as the "Kasuri red" and the "Regular red" (and the same for Kasuri-green/regular-green) are very different colors. The blue Kasuri was my first Kasuri, and it is just lovely! I've since picked up the green and red Kasuri.

As it would be, the "normal" colors of the VP do strike me as somewhat dull - the Kasuri and LEs a lot more "alive" and attractive.

Btw., the black Kasuri is the one I am missing from my Kasuri-set. I am contemplating if I should get a Binderized stub nib with / for one when I get it, though. Ahh, decisions ;)

Thank you for posting a very well thought out and balanced review of the Pilot Vanishing Point. I have owned my blue and rhodium VP for about four years ago, I use it off and on depending on my mood and I really appreciate the history and engineering that went into this series of pen.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
