Here is what I found today (at their store in Singapore):-

 

Rocking rocker with blotting paper strip refills.

The recently reviewed Petit1 pocket fountain pens with spare refills of different colors.

 

On other occasions I found (and bought some):-

Pilot VPs.

Pilot Parallel Pens

Pilot Calligraphy set (its ink cartidges has ball bearings)

Pilot cartridges and ink bottles.

Japanese brand felt pen using ink cartridges (looks like platinum pen cartridges)

Kokuyo and Maruman and dozens of fountain pen friendly notebooks.

For Singapore stores, Moleskine (but fp friendlier) lookalikes from a local company www.grandluxe.com

At this time of the year Japanese bookstores are full of journals and organizers for the coming year. They usually have a special section for journals. Most of them have FP friendly papers. The only problem is that holidays are Japanese ones.

 

I got this one from Takahashi Shoten instead of Moleskine diary that I've been using. If you don't live near Kinokuniya you can probably get them from Amazon.co.jp though shipping is costly.

Interesting. I find Ciak Journal papers too thick for my taste. The one I got is not stitched and won't open flat.

The Manhattan branch of Kinokuniya is one of the city's jewels. It is an ideal place to find beautiful journals, pencils and pens.

Yesterday in San Francisco I stumbled upon Maido, a Japanese paper store, at the Westfiedl Center on the 4th floor! Wonderful... no terrible... no wonderful... no terrible! They had a nice selection of fountain pens in a glass case plus all the other goodies you'd expect at the Japanese paper store!

I bought a fabric cover for the journal. It is meant for Japanese paperbacks but fits the journal as it is the paperback size.

I'm not sure if Kinokuniya carries the same fabric cover, but I'm sure they have something similar. I bought both the journal and the cover at a Japanese bookstore. The cover is made by United Bees Japan (funny name )

I telephoned in an order to the NY store for a pencil holder and so other odds and ends mentioned in another blog. I was treated very nicely and got to speak with a young lady in their stationary section. The order went very smoothly even though we both had to speak very clearly as I am southern and she was Japanese. I am nearly illiterate when it comes to Japanese and fortunately her grasp of English was excellent so things went very well, I really appreciated her patience and assistance. Everything arrived perfectly.

I just visited their Manhattan store over the weekend. It's an amazing store--you really feel like you've stepped into a store located in Tokyo.

Unfortunately, their paper and stationery section is quite limited. I was able to find a few things, though (including some airmail stationery for a decent price). It was especially nice seeing several Japanese fountain pens in the display case (Pilot Capless/VP, Sailor 1911, etc.), a few with unusual finishes, but the prices were really high. I didn't get a chance to check out the book section--will have to do that next time.

I love the New york store--I found they had the Pilot custom 74 demonstrator about $30 cheaper than any other store in NY and on line. They are always very helpful. I actually did a sculpture for the Ciak show in Japan--I filled one of their sketchbooks and made a sculpture. Love their sketchbooks. I went to the Hiroshima Kinokuniya looking for the Pilot M90 a couple of week ago. The stationery section is really messy, but I was helped by the nicest lady in the world. I explained to her in my limited japanese what I was looking for and she came back with a print out of the catalogue and wished me luck finding the pen.

 

I try to visit Kinokuniya everytime I'm in the city, I read a whole Vanity Fair magazine the last time I was there!

I've bought pens at this store in the Uwajimaya Village in Seattle. I really haven't gotten the chance to peruse around in there because I always get "stuck" in one place only, which would be the pens section.

I love visiting the Manhattan branch, but the better Pilots imported from Japan tend to be expensive. I have actually gotten better deals from ebay sellers in Japan and pencils.jp.

A friend of mine was trying to remember the name of this place - "you know, something like Kinky Kimono" she blurted out. Thats all we call the place now. Only Aussie one is in Sydney and always visit when I am in town. Not much to offer pen wise but always a range of Apica, Campus, Clairefontaine, Rhodia and other assorted paper stuff.

There's one in Weller Court in J-Town off of 1st at about Los Angeles St in LA. They have some Ohto fountain pens and Pilot Prera's, but that's about it for FPs. Lots of notebooks and other kinds of writing instruments.
