I have the medium nib. Sometimes you can find 88's cheaper through Montgomery Pens. I love everything about this pen: its simple, streamlined looks, the unique feel of the nib--smooth, flowing, yet with a hint of tactile feedback that is not in any way to be confused with scratchiness or drag. It is quite simply the finest, most pleasurable pen that I have ever tried. I have been using it on a daily basis for the last several weeks and none of the magic has faded. I haven't even been carrying my pen case anymore---just the Aurora 88. By the way, I fill it with Aurora black ink, which has proved to be yet another joy. (I've heard that Aurora doesn't actually make its own inks---who does manufacture this wonderful, flowing ink?)

adair says it all. AKAGodSent, I am afraid you will have to buy one now.

Even though I am in the UK, I managed to get it cheaper than most American sites (amazing!). Still, at a bit over £100 it was more than I ever imagined I would spend on a pen, but I saw it and, well, I have one now and am slightly ashamed that I did spend all that on a pen.. PinarelloOnly's review and photos played a very big role in this of course. I got the XF nib.

Ugh, I might have to put off the Cross pen then (or I might go to Altman luggage and buy both and get a nice discount!), which means I can get the Aurora 88 in a month at the earliest :). But again, I see a few different models, which one did you guys get? I also seem to recall that 'sterling silver', all over, was not a good choice according to one seller at FPH since it gets dirty easily and needs a lot of maintenance, but perhaps that was a different model...

I purchased the so-called "Nikargenta," which has a chrome cap and a black barrel. It is a very elegant combination.

Got it, it's on the list!

Grant Opening of a new Kinokuniya Bookstore at 1073 Ave. of the Americans (between 40th & 41st street, across from Bryant Park). It's 3 levels now and the stationery section (basement floor) is HUGE! Lots more new stuff than the one by Rockefellar Plaza, which is closing by end of this year.

Oh I'm intrigued by Stevdans. I've never visited them before. Besides Rhodia & Clairefontaine, what other things are worth checking out? Are their prices nice compared to other shops like Art Brown?

I went through the place pretty quickly, got some ink (as I noted), which wasn't priced anything special (same prices as I've seen around at other online retailers) and went straight for th Rhodia and Clairefontaine pads/notebooks which are also priced 'average', not too cheap not too expensive. There was a whole wall of pens (not FP's of course), didn't actually see any FP's in fact...was in and out within 10 minutes.

If you go to the Japanese grocery stores around Astor Place, they usually have a stationary section with Apica and others for under normal market price.

M2M at 11th and 3rd

Sunrise Mart right off 3rd and 9th st, on Stuvesant st.

JAS Mart on St. Marks between 3rd and 2nd

I've only actually seen them at Sunrise Mart, but they should be at the others as well.

You're kidding! Wow. Has it actually opened? I'll be sorry to see the original location close, though---I have associated it for years with Rockefeller Center. I did notice last time that the selection of pencils was diminishing.

They have several glass cases of fountain pens, some NOS at reasonable prices. There are shelves and shelves of every kind of notebook and other office supplies. For me, the highlight is the section for Rhodia and Clairefontaine---Stevdan stocks every existing model.

If they are open this Sunday I might pay them another visit. I'm looking to go to Altman Luggage to get a Cross:

http://www.penherostore.com/servlet/the-77...m-Plated/Detail

Now, why I posted two links is because regularly this pen retails for $355. The first link is, I'm guessing, new 'stock' which sells for around 266, already a bargain, the second is 'old stock' (not sure of the difference though, the pens look the same in the 'stock photos' of them...but I'm guessing the old stock has just been sitting around for years? And it is priced at 40% off, $213!! I want to see if Altman can match or beat this price :) and I'll also check out the Aurora 88 while I'm there! I'll give Stevdan's a call tomorrow to see if they are open on Sunday's. I have to say that at the moment, out of my 11 FP's, the Cross Compact is my favorite in terms of how it writes...perfect!

I for my part have never been to Altman Luggage. Where are they? It sounds like a great place.

They have sale at the moment, as you can see on their site, 10% off everything...but sometimes you can get more than that :). And I've heard they don't charge you tax if you pay in cash!

Visited Altman Luggage today, grabbed the Cross pen for $210, no tax, so, a pretty damn good deal if you ask me! But they didn't have it in F so I had to settle for a M. I did try out the Aurora 88, very nice pen, very light, perfect line, smooth, definitely something I'll be getting in the future!
