Lamy 2000 (pencil)

Does anyone have any experience with the Lamy 2000 pencil? I'm probably going to be getting a 2000 fountain pen, but thought it would be nice to have the matching pencil. I work at the Special Collections at the University of Chicago, and since we work around so many invaluable books and manuscripts, our policy is to only use pencil. So, when at work, I use a pencil (currently a Pentel .5mm mechanical pencil).

 

So right now my idea is to get a Lamy 2000 xf fountain pen and the .5mm Lamy 2000 mechanical pencil, both of which I'll hold in one of those snazzy two pen cases that Lamy makes. I thought the pair would be pretty spectacular, but I haven't gotten a chance to try the pencil yet.

 

Any opinions?

Not a bad idea! I may have to consider picking up a pencil to go with my Lamy 2000 ef. How much do the pencils cost??

I love my Lamy 2000 pencil! I have the .7mm, as I seem to break the .5mm leads, but it's very possibly the best MP I've ever used. It's super comfortable, lightweight and the mechanism is reliable and foolproof. And of course it looks great! The eraser is a bit on the tiny side, but I don't erase all that much anyway, so it's not an issue for me.

I love my Lamy 2000 pencil! I have the .7mm, as I seem to break the .5mm leads . . .

 

I have the 0.5mm version, and also break the leads a lot. But other than that it is a superb pencil. I am thinking of getting the 0.7mm to see how that goes. I never had a problem breaking leads in my 0.5mm Pentel P205 pencils. I use Pentel HB lead.

I started with the pen and then opted to add the 0.5mm pencil a few months later (I'm going for my master's in accounting, and I work a lot in pencil as well). As others have said, it's a great pencil, with all the same great design and functionality as the FP. I got mine at Art Brown, and they said they can't keep them in stock, they're so popular.

 

The only knock would be that the eraser is so small that it's really just there for show. I picked up a four-pack of the Staedler Mars plastic erasers at Staples, and I always keep a couple in my bag.

I have the 0.5mm version, too and it's one of the nicer pencils to use. I tend to keep it in an inside pocket, though, because I worry - perhaps uncecessarily - about losing the top section.

I have the 0.7mm version of the pencil along with the BP and FP. I have the two of them rest on that nice plexiglass cube that LAMY made for them.

They are great pencils, solid and lightweight. A very good pencil to have for sure

I'm another with the .07 (I am pencil lover, and will always pair a pencil with either a FP or Roller). One of things that is a little different is the sound of the 2000 when you extend the lead. I can't describe it-it sounds like it might be a little fragile, but it is definitely not.

 

Like all Lamy products, it is built very well.

I went to buy a Lamy Dialog 2 this morning and I got a chance to check out the Lamy 2000 MP and BP. Like the fountain pen version, they're lightweight, but feel solid and confortable in the hand. If you're a Lamy fan you won't be disappointed.

I have a 0.5mm version, but I use B, not HB, leads in it (Pentel or Staedtler). It's lovely to use. I bought mine long before we became Lamy dealers.

 

Nowadays I tend to use my Lamy Scribble 0.7mm instead - it's probably my most-used writing instrument. It's less than 2/3 the price of the 2000 MP .
