I Love My Kaigelu!

tell me, how do you like the 328? the only kaigelu i have is the 323... and it's just ok (smooth, but it doesn't like all inks, it's a bit finicky/fussy). i like the look of the 328 and was wondering how it writes!!!
I have the Kaigelu #316 fountain pen with a medium nib. I love the way it writes! I have iroshizuku yu yake (orange) in it. It's a bit heavy with the cap posted, so I don't write with it posted. I'd love to find other pens with similar nibs...
I have a #317 and even though it was only $8, it has one of the best nibs I have. It writes very fine, very smooth. It is slender (if you are used to a Bic Stic or pencil, it isn't slender) and medium weight, but the weight suits the pen and I have no trouble posting. It is long enough I don't have to post if I don't want to.

I put red ink in mine for when I need to make corrections. I have the orange bodied one as this was originally for my wife and she liked it, but she holds pens up very high and her fingers are on the shelf where the pen cap meets the body (the silver part just before the main body of the pen), and she found it uncomfortable. Therefore I got to keep it (yea!). I have the classic grip and it works very well for me.

I've found to be reliable and if only I had a black one I might bring it with me more often (the orange is just too much for me).

Keep in mind this is an n of 1, so maybe I got the One Superb 317. Anyone else have this pen?

I might be the odd one out here - but a while ago I ordered a bunch of 'cheap' pens - a Hero, a Baoer and a Kaigelu - and I love my Baoer, the Hero is too top heavy, but still quite nice - but the Kaigelu, a 325, is shockingly bad. Lays the ink on like theres no tomorrow - blasts its way through a full converter in about 5 minutes.

Looks like I got a dud =( Might try another one from them!

Did you try the old trick of letting the nib of your pen rest in a glass of water for a few days? Might solve your problem here. :)

I will try that! Thanks, now where did I put it...

edot - Well I did the cold water for a bit and googled around for help, and eventually just 'manhandled' the tines into a better place with my thumbnail - Holy (Potty Mouth) this pen is awesome now!

As soon as I get a magnifying glass\tool I will re-align the tines, I'm sure that they are way out of whack and that is contributing to a bit of the scratchy-ness on certain maneuvers but wow! That is a pretty awesome change!

Another plus with the Kaigelu, at least some models, is a screw on converter.

Agree that Todd at "I sell Pens" is a great person to do business with. Good prices

also.

Just bought a beautiful Kaigelu 316 and a Kaigelu 300. Both write quite well. I got a calligraphy nib on the 300 and am having a lot of fun with that. The 316 is a beautiful kind of tortoise shell. One of the most handsome pens I own. It is a good size and has some weight. The matte black Kaigelu 300 is slim and very light.

My only complaint is thaht I keep forgetting how to spell Kaigelu.

My Kaigelu 333 arrived yesterday. It is billed as a sort of copy of the Sailor Pilot 1911 (I think). It is comfortable, and writes very nicely.

Got a Kaigelu just last week. VERY happy with it. Not as heavy as some, and well balanced. Only problems is that it does not post well (cap nib liner gets in the way), put I prefer unposted writing anyway, especially with a metal pen.

Great value: smooth, wet, reliable

They are beautiful pens but I've yet to see on that will pull ink once the converter reaches the half way mark. For some reason they simply stop writing at the halfway mark.

Still loving my Kaigelu 356! Using it today with a blue-black Noodler's mix I made myself (why purchase another bottle when I have the blues and blacks already!). Smooth, wet, easy to handle.

Also have the 356 Kaigelu. Did not like its medium nib. asked a friend to do a little grinding to move it close to a "fine". That done, I really enjoy using it. Not sure how it will hold up over time.

Seems that it was a good investment.

QUOTE (pechulita @ Aug 1 2009, 11:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi, this a Spanish mad for the fountain pens. I am sorry for my english anyway.

I've been collecting fountain pens for more than 20 years and, opf course, I've tried all the main typical brands, such as Parker, Cross, Waterman, Lamy, Montblanc, Pelikan, etc. and from one year to now I declare my conversion to chinese fountain pens, specially HERO and KAIGELU. Actually I can say that I buy form ebay all models I can find from these brands, and my favorites sellers are "trademarket2008" and "callen6"-"ghostshow" (are the same). To me there is no other best that KAIGELU talking money/quality. Simply WONDERFUL.

I'm going to write what models I have and my rate 0-10:

- 327 7

- 328 red/gold 9,5

- 328 yellow/silver 9

- 331 6

- 309 8

- 325 10

- 226 10

- 335 9,5

.... and waitin for 338

Don't have any dubt with KAIGELU; smart finish, wonderful feeling writing, and realiable ink flow.

Regards from Spain

not only that, but it was just my reply to Pechulita's comment. she is the one with all the Kaigelus.

but to answer HITY: i like Dukes and Heros -from chinese pen makers, that is. Jinhao's and Kaigelus come close in second place.

Just received my Kaigelu 357 on the slow boat. Wrote a bit dry. But after a SBREBrown nib-bend treatment and a bit of flossing, this baby writes like a wet medium and shines red and gold.

Nice to see this old topic come to life again.

Adding my 2 cents:

Bought a Kaigelu 316 ( the Parker Duofold clone/homage) about 2 months ago.

Nice material (I've got the white with black marbled swirls pen). Cap ring looks a bit cheap, reasonable finishing for such a low cost pen.

Weight and balance OK for my hand if the cap is not posted. The cap does not post very well anyway as the black end of the barrel is slightly too thick to fit the cap lip. So posting the cap gives me the feeling I have to force it on, with the risk to damage the cap lip. Worse is that the pen is far out of balance when posted.

Out of the box it was a downright terrible writer. Nicely shaped large rigid steel nib, but horrible two color finishing (gold color out of place with the engraving).

After I widened the channels of the feeder, widened the space between the tines with a thin steel blade and finally smoothed the iridium tip, it became a good, semi wet, medium line writer.

I like the screw in converter.

All together: It needed some work, but it's not bad for such a nice looking big pen for which I paid under 10 Euro's, shipping included on Ebay, sent to me in less than 2 weeks from Shanghai to the Netherlands. No box, but well packed in bubble wrap and sturdy envelope.

I'm very satisfied with it.

Edited to add some details.

Hi,

whose is the seller from whom you bought on e bay?

best

sri

I bought from Juwelrymathematics on Ebay. (email Juwerymathematics@126.com)

(No affiliation except for being a happy customer)

I think they still have the Kaigelu 316 pens for sale.

I could not find back the transaction in my e-bay data, because it was already deleted but I retrieved the payment in my Paypal account archive.

So I found that what I really payed was us$ 22,- with free shipping. A bit more than € 10,--.

So sorry, I made a mistake in the valuta calculation.

$ 22,- equals € 16,58. Still a very good price for this pen.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
