Dating a Parker Blue Diamond Vacumatic(Canadian)

I have just bought a Canadian Parker Vacumatic Blue Diamond on Ebay: this pen is in immaculate cosmetic condition but the filler doesn't work so I'll be sending it away to be serviced- which I would do automatically anyway.

I would be very interested to know the age of the pen and although I have searched through various articles have been unable to find this out.The barrel has very clear imprints but none of these gives a clue: I am attaching a photo showing the plastic filler in case this gives a clue -at least to within a few years.

I will be very grateful if anyone can help me out here - thanks in anticipation.........

The pen should have a date code as part of the barrel imprint. Here's a link to a page that will explain the date code.

Richard - Thanks for your response.

I Have carefully checked the imprint on my Vacumatic and find the following-

Made In Canada Pat.No. 318982 .6

Parker Vacumatic

I wonder if number .6 is the date code although the dot appears BEFORE the number and I can't work out the date of manufacture from this information.

Reading your article ‘Design Features’ http://www.richardspens.com/ref_info/vacdates.htm I "The Wartrime Filler" it looks as though trhe pen was made post 1942 when the plunger was changed from aluminium to plastic. This makes the pen between 65 and 59 years old, assuming that production of the Vacumatic ended around 1948.

Canada seems to have produced the Vac through 1953 with date code system evolving again in 1950. After 1948, clip would correctly be non-blue diamond, even on pens that previoiusly would sport that clip.

Maybe the after dot is worn away making it a second quarter 1946 Vac.

This sounds a feasible explanation and the " second quarter 1946 vac" then sounds right in the context of other data.

Thanks for the suggestion and thanks also to the other members who responded.
