Pens compatible with Parker Gel refills?

Recommended Posts

I've decided that I rather like these Parker refills, at least as an alternative to FP or pencil, and I wouldn't mind having something nice to hold them. I figure any probably Parker pen is an safe bet, but what other fine pens do people know are compatible? Omas? Yard-O-Led? Montblanc? Others worth mentioning?

And I didn't have the heart to tell her why.
And there wasn't a part of me that didn't want to say goodbye.

Quite a few ball points take Parker refills. Pelikan and Rotring are two brands that use them. They are considered one of the standard sizes.

Waterman, Lamy and Sheaffer have proprietary style BP refills.

I love Parker gels Pearlfox, and it's loaded in this Michael's Fatboy Silencer II. Infact I use it exclusively at work, because i need instant access to the tip, I need to write through triplicate forms and can't be worried about damaging a nib. But at home, I put down the gel pen, pick up a cup of tea and let the ink flow.

I love the Fatboys because they are wide and hefty, about 40 grams. They are made of aircraft grade bilet aluminium and come in a variety of finishes. Got mine at Swishers.

Thanks guys. I was hoping a few more brands might wind up in the list...guess I'll have to find a local penstore and do some pestering. :-) Those Fatboys're pretty funky!

My symphathies, Jeen, about your need to write on triplicate forms all day. At the hospital I work at, I have to do the same, so my FP's stay at home for the most part. My current arsenal of rollerball pens includes:

1. Pelikan m200 - Uses a Pelikan RB refill; I'm pretty sure that a Parker won't fit.

2. Parker Sonnet - Uses a Parker RB refill.

3. Parker "Big Red" ballpoints - I have two of these, one red, one vintage orange. Both are equipped with Parker RB refills.

4. A no-name wood-grain-style brass RB pen that I bought a long time ago at The Bombay Company. I currently have a Uni-ball RB insert in it. It writes really well.

Good luck in your search! :)

I was able to resurrect my Caran d'Ache ecridor ballpoint when I found out it takes Parker gel refills. I'd been buying the OEM refills which were not that impressive, hard to find and expensive. Since I've been able to put a gel refill in this beautiful pen has seen almost daily use and is my go to pen when I am not using a fountain pen.

Super smooth action, nice size and weight, and very nicely finished.

A pen a day keeps the doctor away...

I like the Parker gel BP refills too. Other than Parker, I have BP pens from Pelikan & Aurora which take these refills (companions to an M800 & an Optima). I am pretty sure that Omas and Cartier BP pens will accept the Parker gel refill too. Montblanc and Waterman have their own refills and I think Dupont also takes a non-Parker refill.

The Pelikan K200 etc ballpens (not RB) take a "Parker" style refill so the gell ones will be compatible (there's an ISO spec for this refill but I don't have one with me so can't give the number). Others to consider are Yard-O-Led (already mentioned) or Conway Stewart.

He he...Jeen...you're one of those people who label your name on everything huh ? I did that at work too on my stapler, scissors, tape.... Some people teased me that I was anal, but these things develop feet and run away and never return.

I made the same positive dicovery with my Caran D'Ache Hexagonal BPs, which have essentially the same body as the Ecridors, just a different clip and decorations.

Anyway, I found that the Parker Gel refill is a Millimeter too long, but as the click-knob on the top is of screw-in type, I can regulate this.

I'm quite happy to use the Parker Gel turquoise refill and can avoid 'boring' standard BP colours in a classy pen :)

Also my Aurora Optima Sole BP has now a Parker Gel refill :)9

These Gels really ease BP writing.

Sensa has started using the Parker refills, instead of the pressurized Fishers in their newer pens. I also just purchased a companion to my Aurora Ipsilon Deluxe FP, and the ball point pen takes Parker too.

Hi all, couple of questions: Are the Parker gel refills at least waterproof? I think so, since one poster told how his shirt stained with gel ink wouldn't come out with washing. I wonder if it's bulletproof like Noodler's black and Luxury Blue. Probably not . . .

And can the Parker gel write on slick plastic type surfaces as in some types of mailing envelopes?? Regular paste BP refills can, but I wonder if Parker gel can.

Hi,

Parker Gel is not very waterproof on paper, but it stains clothes.

I just soaked a piece of paper after writing on it a minute earlier and it feathered slightly but remained very readable. I really soaked the paper under running water and the Gel held up better than the lines on the paper. Not fully waterproof like a Sharpie but way more than a typical fountain pen ink.

As for plastic, if you mean Tyvek like a Fed Ex envelope, it seems to write on that just fine. However, combining your questions, it's slightly less water proof on Tyvek, but after running water and even rubbing, it's still readable.

If you mean a really glossy solid plastic, it writes, but so far, it hasn't dried. But on that surface, a real ball point isn't doing so great either (skips like crazy and what is written can be rubbed off.)

thanks for testing the Parker gel refills regarding waterproofness. maybe somebody can test its "bulletproofness" too. anyway, bought some refills and they are smooth to write with, a good alternative to a FP.

but now my problem is finding a fat pen that takes Parker gels. I find Parker jotter pens to be too thin. Jeen's Fatboy is an idea, but doesn't look very pretty and expensive for a pen at $75. Well, the Fatboy doesn't look like it's worth $75 to me. How fat is the fatboy, about as fat a typical FP?

The Fatboys go for about $60 or less.

There are alot of different Fatboy finishes/styles.

Check out swisherpens.com for example.

They aren't for everybody because they are heavy and have a large girth, exactly why I love them. I recommend trying it out before purchase.

The barrels are 1.5 cm.

I buy pens around parker gel inserts now that I've discovered them. I lucked out that one of my favorite BP accepts the parker gels. It's an Aurora Optima / green marble. This is one hell of a combo if you cant use a FP.

I also like the gel refils. I recently got one of the newer Visconti branded 1m broad gel refils - super good. Also I have used a dremel tool and ground the tip size on parker style gel refils of all kinds and had good success getting them into Montblanc pens.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
